Sweet! I had no idea he was a pilot.

It turns out that Nick Mason is a pilot as well. I guess if you are part of one of the top selling acts in the world, you can afford stuff like that. I still recall the episode of Top Gear where Nick Mason came on with his Enzo.

Broadening it out beyond Pink Floyd, but still musicians, so's Gary Numan. I am sure there are more rock stars with planes.

To paraphrase "Money": Think I'll buy me a P-51.

Fantastic, one of my fav PInk FLoyd tracks from 1974, sounds like it was recorded yesterday...

Did Dave fly it?

"Us, and them
And after all were only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows its not what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end its only round and round.
Havent you heard its a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
Theres room for you inside.

I mean, theyre not gunna kill ya, so if you give em a quick short,
Sharp, shock, they wont do it again. dig it? I mean he get off
Lightly, cos I wouldve given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...i mean good manners
Dont cost nothing do they, eh?

Down and out
It cant be helped but theres a lot of it about.
With, without.
And wholl deny its what the fightings all about?
Out of the way, its a busy day
Ive got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died."

Can you imagine what a revolution in music 'Dark Side of the Moon' was in 1974? Wow.

The Pink Floyd song, "Learning to Fly" was a fairly popular hit in the eighties and was literally about learning to fly. Mason wrote about his flying lesson he was taking at the time. It was my inspirational song in the year 2000 when I took flying lessons and got my private pilot's license. I would listen to it on the long drive to the airport at times. Another good flying song I liked was "Icarus - Borne on Wings of Steel" by Kansas.

Wow. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Actually the album was out and already popular the summer of 1973 when the song "Money" was on the radio a lot. That's the year I took driver's ed. so I remember quite well. Most of "Dark Side" was recorded in 1972.

"Learning to Fly" is one of my faves. I enjoy the radio chatter during the bridge.

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i
