This week's development update has been added to the site.

This week we're focusing on Pacific Fighters and Battle of Britain, look at the aircraft carrier sway in the sea as we try to land!

As always I am amazed at the new screenshots ....only one tennchy criticism : This Japanese carrier ( in shots showind the Zero landing)appears ( because of lack of wake) to be barely moving on this relatively calm( look at sea) day. This would make the already difficult job of landing on a carier even more so! Having said this I'll still be one of the first to buy this game whenever it comes out.

Why would it be more difficult to land on a carrier in a calm sea when the deck is barely moving? Most people would say it was harder in rough seas when the deck is pitching and rolling. This is something they have already said will be implemented too.

I wouldn't join any club that would have ME as member!

Because the slower you go with less wind means less relative wind which will make it harder to slow down enough to stop on the carrier.

In a choppy sea there will be more wind so the ship will not have to go as fast into the sea to get more relative wind. All he is saying is that there should me more wake in calm seas because the ship would have to go much faster to create more wind for the plane to land.

One question about opening the cockpit :
Will it be possible to bend the head out of the cockpit to imporve visibility, especially at takeoff ?

I wonder what display setting they are using to play the game, because those landing screenshots look awful. It looks like they are playing in 800x600 without anisotropic/antialiasing. You have to be a groupie to appreciate the quality of those screenshots.

Was the same at Blackpool, no AA or AF or anything. Dunno why, would have thought there'd have been some high powered rigs to show off on.

Re: leaning out of the cockpit, Oleg was asked that at Blackpool - the answer was that the open cockpits were a bonus that work with current technology (the view and flight models can cater for it, etc.). However leaning views out of the cockpit would be an entirely new and potentially longwinded bit of development work and are therefore unlikely to make PF. Maybe Battle of Britain.

He didn't rule it out, but it sounded like a "no" to me....

Cheers, Spinner

Cant wait, my only wish is for the carrier landings to be very very hard and that it takes lots of practice to try and master.
Keep it up folks.

In keeping with my earlier comments on Carrier landings does anyone know if there will be an LSO ( Batsman ,I believe in RN - not sure what Japanese equivalent would be...)Sometime ago in a PC gamecalled ( I think) Fighters over the Pacific, or something like that ) they showed the LSO in a little box(like the map in FB) so he could be seen, ditto his movements that would ( theoretically...) guild you into a perfect first wire landing....It was a good idea, but I do remember in practice it usually didn't work to well ,leading to a series of fiery crashes & convinced me to go to auto pilot or simply end game before the landing was required....Maybe Oleg plans for something similar becuse spotting a man in this game even with landing paddles is bond to be pretty tough...Is there a thread on this already?

I do pitch dark ils landing on the Russian carrier in lockon using the lso and instuments. I've been very satisfied with their lso. The lockon lso uses only vocal and text messages. I can't see why this wouldn't work with pf. ( just my opinion which is subject to change at any time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Use a standard approach lighting system like VASI or use an abstract graphic LSO of two paddles and a center point.

Concerning a side view from the cockpit; what I understand is that you need two aspect views of the control panel to move your head to the side and partially out of the cockpit. Only a single 2D aspect is available.

That's what I hear.

What's the 'traffic light' system at on the back of the Japanese carrier? There are some on the side of the flight deck too. Is that a landing system? And if it is does anyone know if it will work?
