More info needed. Don't join a game from the multiplayer button within the game unless you have the IP, use the Ubi lobby or HyperLobby. The Ubi lobby might need to auto-update. Speaking of update, which sim/game do you have?

IL2
IL2 + Forgotton Battles (IL2:FB)
IL2 + Forgotton Battles + Aces Expansion Pack (IL2:FB:Ace)
IL2 + Forgotton Battles + Aces Expansion Pack + Pacific FIghters (IL2:PF)

or

Pacific Fighters (PF)

All of these need patches, and will have to be updated to play online. For IL2:PF and PF, we're running at 4.01m and 4.01, respectively. Without more info, all we can do is point you in the right direction. Here's some links to vital info for new simmers/players. Welcome to IL2. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm kinda in the same boat. I loved PF so much, I took a week or 2 hunting down the rest.
(IL-2, FB, and AEP).

Just sent Tully a PM about clarification about proper installations etc. for a Pure PF as well as a full IL-2/FB/AEP/PF set, mebe even a Pure IL-2 setup as well.

Advice? Is it just a matter of relocating and renaming the directory and shortcut and doing installs of whatever you want? I got the hang of patch order etc.

Yes, basically ...

(Like I still have a 'IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles 3.04m' folder ... just in case)

D Click here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/3131089933/r/9561010043#9561010043) for a run down of what is standalone and what is mergeable.

There is no reason you can't have multi installs, they don't interfer with each other at all. If you want multiple patch versions of each install it's a little trickier (this is where the folder copying comes in) but still they wont interfere with each other.

If you have all four boxes (IL2 Sturmovik, IL2 Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack & Pacific Fighters) I'd suggest the following:<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI> Install IL2 Sturmovik and patch it to 1.2. There are some goood missions and static campaigns included that you can copy over to later game versions. If you have plenty of disk space feel free to leave it isntalled to play occasionally.
<LI> Install FB/AEP/PF according to the sequence shown in this post. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/5581083643) Unless you have friends who don't have the full combination that you want to fly multiplayer with, you don't need to do anything fancy with folder copies, just follow the patch sequence.
<LI> If you have friends who only have PF you might also want to make/keep a standalone PF install for multiplay, but you don't need it to fly single player missions or campaigns. They will work equally well in the merged version. PF will offer only a standalone installation option if FB/AEP is not installed. If FB/AEP is installed, you can have the option to do both a standalone install in a separate folder and an add-on install over the existing FB/AEP install.[/list]

If for some reason you do want to maintain an older patch version of one of the game combinations alongside the latest version, you'll want to follow the instructions posted here (http://airwarfare.com/mediawiki-1.4.5/index.php?title=Multiple_Installations) or version 2 here (http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/multivers.htm). The instructions are the same at each location, just the text is organised a bit different for clarity.

There are only three hitches in the whole process I've come across that aren't due to patching errors.

The first happens sometimes when you install PF standalone before installing FB/AEP. Sometimes the PF installer doesn't recognise the FB/AEP install after PF standalone is installed. The solution is back up your PF user & missions folders (plus any skins etc you've added), uninstall the lot and start over.

The second happens when the FB/AEP is installed manually instead of using the CD autorun. A bug in the (3rd party) install manager means the registry entries aren't made correctly. There's a post in the "User fixes that may help others" that addresses this, or you can just un-install/re-install FB/AEP using CD autorun.

The third happens when trying to merge using a combination of retail boxed CD's and online purchase downloads. FB & PF are both available for purchase as online downloads, but these versions do not recognise / are not recognised by the CD version of AEP. Solution: don't buy the downloaded versions.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
