View Full Version : One hell of a pilot

I don't know how this will be received, I hope favorably. I thought it would be fun to give the best on-line virtual pilots some recognition, for their skill's as virtual pilots. Perhaps the top 4 could then be in a pole posted this July 4th, and future July 4 th's, a yearly award. (to be voted on by the community) "Best IL-2 Pilot of the year 2006". You know the winner won't take long to include that honor in his/her sig. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif The pilot name submitted should be their HL call sign. The factors for considering nominees should include not only piloting skill's, but leadership abilities, a good sence of fair play, and of course a high kill percentage. Generly someone who you admire, and would have been honored to have served with in WW2. I plan to start playing on-line so that I will win next year's award http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
If not much interest, I will forget this dumb idea of mine http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I second slo, i fly bombers and i get shot down quite often... can i get soem sort of : "dear god! you fly a bomber online?!" award ?
Can donald sutherland present it? no...?...ok... can carrot top present it?...no?...vanilla ice?...no...?... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Capt.LoneRanger
06-17-2006, 03:37 PM
That's what I mean, Slo.

Sure, you get the Hot-shot award here, but surely not the award you'd get for fullfilling a mission (e.g. on warclouds), covering a teammate, keep fighters buisy to help a wounded teammate get home, etc.

Score says nothing about pilot skills.

slo_1_2_3
06-17-2006, 03:51 PM
Well I fly co-ops now only co-ops and I usually try to do what I can and make it back home safe , and I sometimes manage to cover people but most of the time I'm the guy who needs to be covered , eh what can you do .

I can see that this was a baddddd idea. I only thought of it from seeing some of the on-line pilots do their thing. Some are really good, like I mean good. And yes, teamwork should be the number one factor for a award. I quess I should drop the whole dumb idea for now, and go lay down in the corner with a beir

So's not to feel left out, I've awarded myself 1st prize for the one-armed pilot with most kills.

On further consideration, I realised that I might as well scoop the pool; most honourable pilot, best flying skills and attitude, dies with pride, all in the one-armed category of course - but I feel like a real winner, which is great!

I'm thinking of a shield, sig-wise. Something like a raspberry-ripple ravissant on a field of sapphire sounds nice, coupled with my personal motto...

"Stuff the fugitive - here comes the One-armed Man!"

Great idea Slip! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Edit: And with gratitude to a great man - Ian Dury - Raspberry Ripple Supreme - fly well, bro http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's because your criteria was simply too broad. You didn't specifiy enough.

Which aircraft? Which mission type? What settings? are just three you didn't specify that would render completly different lists.

Pilots ranked high who only fly with no cockpit would never garner the recongnition from the die-hard realism fans. Cockpit only pilots would never get the respect of no cockpit fliers.

This topic has been started about 1000 times in every forum about a flight sim and always ends the same way. There is no single, clear measure of "Who's the best?". You couldn't even get an agreed opinion on "Who was the best REAL fighter pilot in WW2?" and that's with all the factors being pretty much known...

The absolutely best online pilot (fighter) has been Jan Dreyer. He is exceptional dogfihter I'm always amazed how he is actually waiting for adversaries to engage him and then shot them down in classic dogfight...a really gifted virtual pilot!

Well, the way he shares his experience is definitely makes him stand out of the pack.

What happened with his "role playing" game with a wingman? Did he find any?

By the way, maybe instead of the "one hell of a pilot", it would have been more original thought to try the "one hell of a leader and wingman" contest, i.e., who are the best people flying regularly in formation with others. You don't see that much these days, so perhaps seeking such good flight pair would have been lifting the willingness to fly that way by others.

Dreyer, yes... so, he managed to kill around 280 fighters on FR settings without getting killed himself, right? And he flew 109s IIRC.

I think you are in the wrong poll mate, this one is for best skilled pilots, not most respected for doing their bit...

As for this poll, i can say, that i would never ever vote someone who flies cockpit off as best pilot. Pit off is just so ******ed its comical. Pathetic even.

If you're roughly in GMT +-2 zone I'd recommend ADW (http://www.adwwar.com/en/) you have to register to play and it's squads only server. Basically it's a fully dynamic online war without the hassle of waiting in the lobby or booring autogenerated missions. Excellent pilots on both sides, excellent teamwork, very immersive.

Oh did I mention limited number and plane type alocated to squadrons?

from the tracks he posted on his web site http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/ , his main skill seemed to be situational awareness and target priorization... which aren't really advantages in a 1vs1 situation http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No offence to mr. Hair Dreyer, but it seems we can only trust his word, like saying he never disconnected when in danger, or accidentaly game crashing, when someone was chasing him etc..

I find the best virtual pilots in online wars, such as VEF2, and Bellum.. Too bad there ain't a single decent online war at the moment..

Code hacked?!?! Very doubtful, unless it was leaked by one the 1C team or a developer who has access to the code. I'll believe that when I see it. Of course, eventually I'd guess that all encryption could be broken one way or the other. Again, I'll believe when I see it up close and personal.

Most likely a speed hacker and easily defeated through speed check and proper max lag settings by the host of the server.

Also, if you really thought this guy hacked the code and you were chatting with him for 15 minutes, you would be squealing his name/callsign and the details of your "chat" like a stuck pig or would be perched on a stool flapping your arms and doing your best impression of a New York pigeon.

I know I would be without hesitation.

Nah, that's just the "normal" 109G2 "flight" model. More like a hover model.

saddly enough I have no track, Ive been flying Il2 since its Inception, I know what I seen and the reason Im not on the rooftop screaming is because no one ever belives it, I was in a server with proper settings Spits v 109, Its the first time I seen him & the last, I asked RAF238ThGunrunner to add him to banlist for all warbirds servers, wich has been done, I havent seen his callsign around, I did speak with him in chat, there were over 50 players in the game at least 5 other players were trying to shoot him down while I watched, His flying was far far far beyond the current ufo we all know as the g2, while we spoke I begged him not to allow his hack to get into the mainstream online community, Ive seen other sims compleatly destroyed by this in the past, It starts out small only a few pure hacked fm's they tweek them just enough so its almost imposibal to detect but just enough so you cant touch them, belive me this was not lag or speedhack this was a hacked Fm pure & simple.

If you realy want to know his callsign It was:
besure
be_sure
be sure
Be Sure

I dont rember the exzact spelling, another thing about this guy was he didnt shoot anyone down altho he could have several times easily, He was just flaunting his hacked FM and spoke of it freely after I called him out.

I would never say all this **** if I wasent 150% positive.

If I ever see him again Ill track it.

You`re a fecking moron!Linking this game with what you posted directly offends me.

News flash, moron!I fly German planes because I like German machinery and maybe I like to play the "bad" side. And if those planes had black/white crosses and swastica as a part of their markings THEN GIVE MY PLANE A ******* SWASTICA.
Although that DOESN`T

I repeat

DOESN`T link me with nazi ideology or their doings. It strikes me that anyone,ANYONE attaches ideology to whatever he flies.

Putting a Hitler/UFO picture aside German plane screen from the game is suggesting all players flying blue are nazis and is completely OUT OF LINE!
