there's a thread developing at the 3vowel website with a response awaited from the marketing manager of API (the company who created this) (http://www.seeingmachines.com/product/faceapi/) - the software is available free, your only outlay is a webcam http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Its already being toyed with in FSX

Also, although my french is fairly poor, it has been worked on with UBI in conjunction with some projects according to this (http://www.francois-tarlier.com/blog/?tag=6-dof) video . . .

If this is as good as it looks, no more cap wearing! But more seriously, possible 6DOF interaction for all players at a more affordable price than TrackIR?

As far as I know this is a fairly recent thing & people are still waiting for the developers (API) to come back with info on Il2 compatibility, I believe an email was received with background info today & more specifics are awaited.

I haven't tried it, though I have d/loaded the 'tester' and MSN plugins to see what they do later today.

I would imagine if its MS Flight Sim X compatible it should work with Il2, seeing as both have 6DOF with TrackIR?

Perhaps someone with a more technical understanding can shed some light?

Just now the Cachya.com site is down though.

For those of us who are fairly new to Il2 and are still learning about the many enhancements available or who have to think twice about shelling out in excess of 200 for TrackIR and a decent joystick/throttle I hoped this would be of interest.

What I liked about this was the lack of any encumbent tracker device on your head! & the low cost makes upgrading to a decent joystick/HOTAS set up much more viable http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I appreciate TrackIR dominates the 6DOF options but its a fair old whack of cash!

Although, if this turns out to be not all its cracked up to be, I'm prob'ly gonna have to shell out anyway http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif - just watching all those TrackIR vids on youtube then ploughing through games with my knackered hat switch makes me jealous!

I hope that cachya is not gone, it's been out a long while and doesn't need lights on a hat -- just a paper "target".
Either way you wear something on your head that says "I'm a Geek".

Ash1976, keep looking.

Not if you fly a late war Japanese plane and wear a Japanese kamikaze head band on your head... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

This would be great. Won't even need to bother with a soldering iron for a editted unit.

EDIT: Be careful folks, there is a particular free trackir alternative with the word free in the name that is not allowed to be discussed on this forum.
