So I'm confused. (nothing new here)
I've been reading all over the place about '46. I thought 'Sturmoviks Over Manjuria' was being released first. Also it says "...This new opus also includes all of the previous Il-2 series content."
I have some questions;
Does this mean SOM is included?
Is this the vaunted 'everything' DVD?
Will it still be possible to d/l SOM and '46 as separate downloads?
Is there a Santa Claus?
Why is there air?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yeah, the DVD includes EVERYTHING including all three downloadable addons:PE-2, Sturm's over Manchuria, and 1946.

IMO, they shouldn't have named it 1946 because
#1 it makes IL-2 players think it only includes the 1946 addon
#2 it makes people who have never played the sim think it's only concentrated on hypothetical engagements with planes that never flew when it actually encompasses the whole war from 1939

In that the flight sim market is small, relative to the other games, but the transition stuff has the ability to suck in some buyers that may never buy a pure WWII flight sim.. There are tons of whiz bang space war Kido's out there that are into that late war what if Jerry did this or that and neat-o weapons stuff that just might cause them to buy it. They will load it up, play it for awhile and realize it is too real for them and go back to playing Quake or BF1942 or some other pure game. But, the good that comes from that is Oleg makes $ off of those nubs to do more work for folks like us. Oh sure, HL will be a mess for a few weeks.. maybe even months after the initial release what with all the kids cruzing the lobby.. but they will fade away as soon at the next add on to FEAR hits the shelf.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

OK, so this is the "everything" DVD. I'd prefer not to buy everything all over again. Does anyone know if SoM/46 will be available as separate downloads? I realize that D/L'ing the two add-ons would equal the everything DVD but there may be folks that could afford $20 for each addon separately easier than $40 in one fell swoop. And what about folks who may not want 46 content? (there have been a few that have said they are not that interested in planes that didn't fly)<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

BTW, Paint your Wagon is a nice movie. I love Lee Marvin's caveman macho voice. Clint, on the other side, was kinda disappointing when I heard the original soundtrack. You know, the guy who dubbed him in Spanish was the same who did James Earl Jones... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

If that box cover is any indication, the Brits lost the Bartle of Britain. That Hurricane on the cover is out of gas. Therefore, the Germans successfully blockaded the UK and defeated the British strategically. The Luftwaffe was obviously sent up as fodder until the RAF couldn't refuel ever again.

I hope this is just a dumb question--
I ordered '46 through GoGamer (thanks Jason) the night it became available. I installed a DVD player on my PC a couple weeks ago, and have never installed a game from DVD.

Today I suddenly panicked--Do I have to be worried about DVD "Zoning" when it comes to this, since as I understand it, this is not technically a North American release? I once bought some film DVDs with UK zoning out of ignorance and was very disappointed to have to send them back. Is this an issue with games at all? Could someone put my mind to rest? Thanks for any replies!

DuxCorvan
11-20-2006, 05:15 PM
Don't worry. AFAIK, "zoning" is only for DVD-Video, not for games. I have imported DVD games from the USA -I'm in Europe- without problems.

Release Date June 1st 2007?

knightflyte
11-20-2006, 05:58 PM
I wish folks would use their brain when they post speculative dates concerning the release of BoB. Especially by those who've been around a while and know how easily it is to get folks riled up or confused.

It's been said NUMEROUS times here and on other forums NOT TO EXPECT BoB untill November 2007.

Why add to the comfusion?

Despite what gaming sites/retailers say BoB's not coming untill November 2007.

I meant no real disrespect Curtiss. It's just that there's already a lot of confusion with 4.06 and it's release.....coupled with what is and isn't included.

Adding spurious dates for BoB just creates more.

I was just spouting a bit of frustration and it came out badly.

It's all good.....

In your absence there's been a lot of new folk entering the IL2 fold. So there's a lot of information being bantered about...... some speculative..... some true.

Glad you understand my stupidity. Thanks

I hate to suggest another website.....(I like this one)..... but it seems at least to me that there's more 'real' information is at Sim HQ.

UBI doesn't respond here, and Olegs busy.

I'm glad its being released as one big set...and 39.99 USD is a great price. With all that content Ubisoft could ask $50 if they wanted and still sell it. Folks need to remember that Ubi is marketing this to new players, not just oldtimers. Also, having the whole series on one DVD will make reinstalling IL2/FB/AEP/PF/PE2/46 sooo much easier when I get a new computer. Frankly, I was somewhat dreading the necessity of going thru all the separate installs and patches. Now if Il2MAT came on the disc, we'd be set.

Hey guys.

Total newcomer. I was looking for a WWII flight sim for a new computer I just purchased. Looking to get back into the genre. Last one I played was Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. I remember some Pacific theater game that almost melted my computer a few ago too.

Anyway, I've read some good things about the series, and I sure I'd receive unbiased recommendations for this game! So, does "1946" include everything I need...or it is an expansion pack, and I need to get the original as well?

Thanks for your help...and if you have any other titles you'd recommend, I'm all ears.

Well different strokes for different folks. But you DO realize that this is JUST a game. For all the things you mention that dissappoint you there are a ton of other features that far excel what CFS2 and CFS3 accomplish.

I do think it's unfair to blame RGR studios. With the oncoming Storm of War: Battle of Britain series support and evolution for IL2/PF has to stop somewhere. It's not perfect, but it IS still very enjoyable.

Why is this sim named 46? I assume this means 1946...the year after WWII ended. What's the deal here?

The 46 represents a What-if scenario, but understand this package will include EVERYTHING including a nice addition of Pacific theater historical maps and aircraft that further serve to round out the already extensive coverage we currently enjoy...even if you're not a fan of the early jets or additional experimental aircraft, this package offers much.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Star Wars? Star trek? I do believe your ignorant to what these planes/concepts were capable of or how many actually were built. These planes although are jets for the most part will not be world beaters. A good prop pilot will kill the average jet pilot any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Perhaps a little bit of research and rational thinking could help you in the future. Xman...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

There is a REAL SIMPLE solution here. If you don't like the FM, DM, the missing flyables, or the content that most of us here ASKED to get when we were told these add-ons were RUSSIAN RELEASE ONLY: DON'T BUY IT!

No, I'm not excited about the VVS '46 jets, but the new maps and the Japanese aircraft are what I want. Plus, we will still have 4.08 coming with more FREE content (who knows, there may be something else later).

No one is making you puchase the add-ons. If nothing else, it will be worth owning just for the simplicity of doing a re-install.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have absolutely zero (0) interest in the "what if" fantasy aircraft. Read that as NONE, NADA, the NULL Set.

Yet, I am looking forward to '46 for three reasons.

1. It will contain ALL previous content, which will have a much better chance of drawing in new players (i.e. no paying for three separate versions and not having to be careful on loading in proper sequence).

2. Promised FM tweaks to current aircraft. (Please limit the Zeke's current unrealistic ability to stay in a controlled dive with the heavier Grumman stuff...and a little more speed for the Mossie wouldn't hurt. Probably have to wait for 4.0X for these. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif )

3. New WWII aircraft for the pacific theater (mostly IJA, I think).<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Cannae wait!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif Other then I think the Zeke gets pretty stiff at high speed. At least I typically have no problem evading one. Would love to see the Mossie get a speed increase they so rightly deserves. And of coarse want to see the recoil sway bug for US .50 equipped planes gone.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
