Documentary focusing on air speed records from the post war years until the space race.

The USA led the way during the innovative 1940's and 50's with their rocket-powered X-planes, while the UK experimented with even faster aircraft... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Battle of the Rocket Men

The story of air speed records from post war until the Space Race began in earnest. The late 1940s to late 1950s was a time of great innovation in aviation, with the speed merchants beginning to set their sights on the mythical sound barrier.

Interviews from heroes such as Chuck Yeager, Scott Crossfield and Pete Everest - as well as the family members who were left staring at the sky, hoping to see their loved ones again that evening.

Doh!... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif Another documentary that shows how stupid we were to trust the Americans...

Yep, not a mention of how we exchanged all our info on the Miles M-52 and its all flying horizontal tail€¦

When you see these €œX Planes€ and their records laid out, two things stand out, they are all more rocket than plane and none would be able to attain their record breaking speeds without the info they got from the Miles M-52 Project€¦ In fact they are the dragsters of the aviation world€¦

Some nice footage. Certainly a misleading build up in the telly pages....not that I any way want to belittle the U.S A.'s acheivements.

Thought Chuck looked well....flying modern jets at 81 and all that. Those guys had balls of steel, and hats off to them.

Nice to see Eric Brown looking good too.

Might be nice to tell our American friends to look out for it on BBC America. I'm sure they'd love it.
