Are we all geeky nerds for loving this sim and spending so much time playing it?

How many of you guys actually have girlfriends or wives (not blow up ones http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)?

My friends all take the mickey out of me for my interest in WW2 but I just laugh it off ,and none of my girlfriends are remotely interested - only my current one tolerates it.

I know that some of the guys here arent but seriously thats the preconception from the outside looking in.

Well, you haven't become hopelessly nerdy because of this game until you've bought a Track IR with Vector and THEN did the T_O_A_D mod to it, so relax!... doh! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I dont know about any1 else on here and not blowin my own trumpet. but im def not geeky. I am one the most popular kids in school and always meeting girls. if they dont like my interest in ww2 and il2 then it dnt matter they dont have to. and i think this is one of the best forums. every1 has a sense of humour but also a serious side where you can really open up. thats what i love about this place. every1 is cool. peace from daniels bedroom, london. :-)

So if I'm a Geek I'm a **** sexy successful Geek

The term *geek*, in my mind, involves being a person who wears a pocket protector and can do quadratic equations in less time than it takes them to read the whole problem..

In my mind, people who play ANY video game, weather it be console or PC, they do it not because they are geeks but because they, well, just love doing it! And if anybody says I shoudlt do somthing I love doing, within reason, I couldnt care less! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Well I'm just coming off from being a student and I've managed to turn this hobby of mine into something that I was able to study and achieve excellent marks on. So its paid off...

Wife? Too young for that. Girlfriend...if only the good ones grew on trees. Far too many friends and social engagements to make up for that. So yeah, this is the free time after all of the other free times...then I can be geeky on any number of topics. Everyone is a geek about something, everyone has a hobby...if they don't, they haven't lived enough yet.

I live in a mountain resort town. Most people here cant even receive an email let alone write one sooo when friends come over and see my Cougar HOTAS setup I get a lot of eye rolling until I actually show them PF in action. A few are quite surprized by the differences between a simulation like PF and the wonky games they, at most, are used to seeing on an Xbox.
At any rate Yes I am a Geek. Id rather watch a good National Geo Special than the super bowl.
Yes I have girlfriends. None so far have been cool enough to get what simulation is about. Come to think of it my last one wasnt that cool at all. Beginning to thing they are all aliens. Most just tolerate, but its when they think its cute that it becomes really annoying.

Nerd? I divvna wear glasses, have spots or masturbate more than 8 times an hour (I like to keep it at 8) nor do I like Star Trek, Buffy, Angel, (I once overheard someone in HMV trying to decide whether to buy Buffy or Angel DVD for an Xmas present and their friend said they ought to get Angel cos it was 'more realistic') CSI or Babylon 5. Star Wars is overrated cobblers, too.

We may be geeks/nerds, but I'd rather be playing PF, making model A/C, reading stuff etc, than hanging out on street corners, drinking white lightning (or whatever your national cheapo high strength cider may be), and smashing up phone boxes and bus shelters with all the other geek/nerd callers. (Thats what I used to tell myself when I was younger anyway, bit old for hanging round street corners now).

What are we? Well, I think John Prine probably said it best...

Down the hall
Upstairs from me
There's a girl I swear
I never see

I hear the ringing of her phone
She must live up there all alone
She hangs her clothes out on the line
They're hangin' there right next to mine
And if the wind should blow just right
She could be in my arms tonight

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone

The cashier at the Pump 'N Pay
Knows everything's gonna be ok
The all night alright rent a cop
Is across the street at the doughnut shop (that's you Dubbo by the way!)
The waitress waits with the wiskey sour
At the single, mingle happy hour
The one man band begins to sing
Accompanied by a drum machine

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone

White divorced swinging male
Seeks company to no avail
Worthless ruthless toothless man
Wants wealthy woman with a plan
SWF with a PHD
Seeks TLC at the A&P
GWM nice and trim
Seeks s-e-x at the g-y-m
Ugly man treats girls like dirt
Wants buttons sewn upon his shirt
DUI at the b-a-r
Seeks m-a-n with c-a-r

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone

Toothy gal with the breasts so large
Takes Visa, Amex, Mastercard
Dial 1-900-girls for fun
You lonely only hot dog bun!

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone

We are the lonely, all together
All together, we're all alone
We are the lonely, all together

'Nerd' term for me means a slim guy with glasses, pale skin,no friends ,who plays comp games to keep him forgetting no1 likes him.A guy beyond the society.

I love and play sports, have friends, not very pale skin,no glasses,am not fat nor slim.I do hate commercial nature of todays world though.I don`t like being just one head in the crowds and can`t stand popular music(Metallica is popular too!).

About games.I play them bacause what I read in books can be fulfilled in games partly and this time I`m participating actively. If one rollseyes at me than he connects me to all other ppl playing video games which shows ignorance and narrowmind.

Always loved planes, interested in history.FBAEPPF with those makes an explosive mix

I am also a guy who is 'hard' for females because I do not like unnecessary compromises.

When I could still drive I was a pretty avid fisherman. Used to slay Crappie at Alamo, Bass too, Roosevelt lake was always good to me and the new dam at Lake Pleasent turned the fishing from decent to good.

I had a fishing buddy hual me out to Pleasent a couple weeks back and after a few hours he said "So, your wife told mine that you spend a lot of time flying on your PC now." I said "ya, its a blast too. You should come by and check it out sometime" he answered with something to the effect of "Nah, that s**ts stupid"

I looked at him for a bit until I couldn't keep it to myself anymore and said something like " T. we're sitting in a boat you gave over 12 grand for. There is a 250 horse motor behind me that I know you paid At Least 2000. If we don't hook up in 5 more casts your going to fire that bad boy up and run to the other side of the lake 'cus them bass might get away' I have a rod that went for $156.00 4 years ago and a $128.00 doller reel is attached to it in my hand. Yours is newer and I see the name on both so your holding over $300 in your hand. We are both casting lures that cost over 8 dollers each. If we do manage to catch something.....we will throw it back http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif.....but I suppose your right, this is a real hobby, simming is just stupid."

My greatest feat is that I have conditioned my longtime girlfriend to be interested in the WW2 stuff. She actually sometimes spots documentaries for us to watch together.

Probably she is just trying to find something for us to do together. Ah, the sacrifices she makes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well to me its totally Rock 'n' Roll...but as in any subject that people have a great interest/great knowledge, when talking to those who don't have any interest...then your classed as a geek/nerd/anorak
However...being strapped to a 1000hp-2000+hp engine, armed to the teeth with machineguns/cannon/rockets/bombs capable of hundreds of Mph, with the job of bringing your guns to bear upon the enemy aircraft/ground target...is...imo...total Rock 'n' Roll and i like it like it...yes i dooo http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Hehe, Revenge of the Nerds 2 is on right now, I think I'll go watch it.

Anyway, no we're not nerds for liking aviation history. This is what I love about this game, I get bugger all chances to go flying, so this game is a real beaut for me. It's fun recreating real events and stuff. As for things like modelling, I've got an F-111 gaining dust by the minute in my closet, try and do the odd bit here and there, but I don't have much time really. But I'm sporty. I do at least 10 hours plus of several sports, footy, tennis, soccer, badmington, bitta bowling, did rockclimbing a while back, and a lot of swimming, so I get out a lot also.
The thing is, you always gotta have that other side of you, the quite one where you do your thing all alone. I bet all those sports jocks like sewing or something http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Its true,a hobby - can be termed geeky depending on what it is. I am also a big football fan yet Im never called up for that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I think its just society trying to tell others what is 'normal' and what you should be 'in to' and what not to. Having a D9 as my wallpaper can be misinterepreted by some however that I am a Nazi sympathiser but this too is all in jest ( I hope ! )

Secretly , my friends are fascinated by this game as they like looking at wmv's posted of ingame dogfights. My girlfriend has even attempted to play it a few times, she is going to take a lot of work to get up to scratch ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I look at it this way:

What other hobby can reassure the lady of the house where you are at all times, and make you availabel to do whatever little household chores are required (unless of course you're on the bomb run!!)??

You're not out at the pub, supposedly chasing women, and/or getting roaringly pissed in the process; you're in the house, where the wifey/girlfriend can see you, or at least hear you whenever you get PK-ed, and you're not spending loads of money.

I certainly don't see the problem.
