It differed from its immediate predecessor the Bf 109G in having a more powerful engine, the DB 605's usual 1550 horsepower being boosted to 2,000hp for take-off by the use of methanol injection. It had the taller tail of later G models, and the clearer-view, but still cramped, late model cockpit canopy (sometimes known as the "Galland" hood); armament was two 15mm MG151 cannon and one 30mm, either MK 103 or 108. It was fitted with a semi-retractable tailwheel and a longer spinner.

One would think that a company supposedly making high quality models would at least get the description of the a/c correct. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Where did they get this nonsense from?

They also forgot to mention the removal of the elevator to save weight.

What is wrong in the quote?

....

I guess I never heard about Mk103 equipped variants... but... I can't tell for sure.
About horsepower - Kurf didn't perhaps have 2,000HP, but dunno about C4 variant.

of the top of my head, didnt the kufurst have a fully retracable tailwheel, and 2 mg 131's, not mg151's

I guess you're right.

Tailwheel was fully retractable.

About MG131s... that too. Perhaps they armed some of them with 2xMG151s (15mm)? I dunno how possible is that tho.

The MG151 myth started with Green, who mis-read the '3' in MG131.

The Germans tried to mount a MK103 in the 109 but this was a modified version of the cannon. It was never mounted in a production K-4.

The 2000hp could only be obtained with 1.98ata boost + MW50 + C3. Other DB605 engines used MW50 but did not produce 2000hp.

DKoor, the MG131 is 1168mm long. The MG151 is 1917mm long. A difference of 749mm (29.5"). Have you seen any 109s with the barrels projecting out of the cowling?

You nailed it, L. The fantasy started with Green. Imagine that we only started to get accurate info about the late Gs and K in the very late '70's---which, I suddenly realized was 30 years ago! That model looks awful. Looks like a clumsily altered Airfix 109G-6 from 1965.
