I just thought i'd try the "Hung piece drill". the module hangs consistently. It is now hanging at drill 2 with the phrase "waiting for drill" flickering and both CPUs in full use.

This is such a basic feature. I do hope cm fixes it.

I confirm that this bug is present both on Windows XP Home edition and Windows Vista Premium Home edition.

A bit more detail on the bug:

Every 2nd time a drill is launched (any drill, it seems), the "waiting for drill" message appears and flickers indefinitely.

The other times when the first drill is shown, the same problem may occur during any of the subsequent trials.

Finally, some of the problems have no solution. I found this with some of the rook, knight or bishop fork drills.

Indeed this is a very basic part of CM which worked very well in earlier versions. It seems like a step backward in a section of the game that should have been a basic transposition.

Same problem I am having, so I guess they never fixed that in a patch...

Yes, this is still a problem... it's been mentioned before in the CM 11 Bug Fixes / Enhancements (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4221052685/m/9821045146).

Are drills can be edited?

Minor errors in the academy, Josh Waitzkin can possibly improved by using the built-in editor. And drills?

A great pity that this part of Chessmaster has not been tested at all.

No, you can't edit or create your own drills.

If the drills worked, then that would improve my playing ability. Does Chessmaster 10 have the drills?

Yes, Chessmaster 10th Edition has the drills.

I have a question about Chessmaster 10 (I know it's not the topic, but I want to hook the question predecessor). Are drills in Chessmaster 11 come from the CM 10? Are they the same?

Also, I believe that such exercises will help me improve my skills in chess, and CM10 in Poland is now very cheap (equivalent to $ 4, appeared repeatedly in the so-called low-cost series).

Chessmaster 10th Edition does have many of the same drills that are in Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition.

At $4, I'd definitely pick up a copy of Chessmaster 10th Edition. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I do not really know if Ubisoft at some point is going to think about continuing the series, but after the last Chessmaster Grandmaster edition patch, serious issues not fixed yet (since 4-5 years ago!) made their uses become angry as we were OFFICIALLY forced to buy the previous version of the game to be able to play "drills":

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/497754-cm-11-hangs-in-drill-Forums

being "the art of learning" the slogan of the game and the strong point of that PC title versus other similar PC chess computer games (and I am also owner of another Chessmaster game...).

So Ubisoft just left a hole community with strong problems in one of their games, many years ago. I would like to read an official answer from Ubisoft about this. Indeed, they later produced versions of that game for other platforms, such as the Nintendo DS. Do they really think of continuing the saga at some point? Some months ago (or one year at most), they released an small version of the game in Steam, not a full version, not clarifying at all what was included or not. It was not really worthing to buy that "game", as all people claimed in Steam formus, being a kind of tricky way of making people pay an small amount, and ending in a lot of bad talking about the brand in those forums. Do they understand that all of this is completely against the good name of Ubisoft as a company?

I just hope this will be read by the propper person at some point, and that they will change their approach completely, because otherwhise they are going to have huge problems in the future, at least concerning their Chess community, and its a REAL pitty, because I strongly recommended this game in the past for startest, as the one with the best PC Chess learning game ever.

I'm using windows 7 (64bit) and I updated to 1.02 which gave me more problems. My drill practice also kept hanging or game me same puzzle constantly after first few attempts. So I uninstalled the game and installed fresh (kept my user info). With the 1.00 version, the drill practice seems to be working fine. You can check the version in game by going "help" the selecting "about chessmaster".

In order to prevent automatic update at the beginning, I made a custom shortcut directly to "chessmaster.exe" and I presume same should work for "game.exe". They will bypass the auto update. You can also firewall the program to prevent internet access. I found custom shortcut to be suffice enough.

I also removed the intro video by modifying "cm.ini" (find it in your computer), under [settings], change the "IntroMovie=1" to "IntroMovie=0"

It is pretty sad & disappointing that developers are not working on additional patches as game really needs it. It could've been really great game but these small things make it bit frustrating.
