Oleg has JUST posted replies to a few questions on the 1C forum.
Here's a copy:

Oleg: answering questions
-------------
Evgeny wrote:
Well, guys, I collected most questions in one post in order to let Oleg find them easily without searching through all the posts. He will answer them as soon as he can. And please don't give too many comments on this message untill Oleg answers it, cause it will ruin the whole idea of the collected questions. Hope for your understanding.

So, the questions:

1) Can we expect some kind of list regarding add-ons and changes implemented in the final 4.09 patch ?

Only when it will be ready. But now I can say that changes thare will be minimal, becasue of absolutely no time.

Evgeny wrote:
2) I would like it if Oleg could address the issue of countering the recent spate of hacks for 4.08, and to tell us what plans he has (if any) to once again lock down the game and combat those who would seek to open up the code.

Probably there willbe only very minimal changes. See answer above.

Evgeny wrote:
3) I remember Oleg saying way back that there would be AI available in Dogfight servers.
I wonder if the game had got onto testing Mutliplayer yet?

In BoB - Yes.

Evgeny wrote:
4) My question is if SOW gives you the possibility in offline mode to start your mission in Hangars or Parking possitions? And if so will there be the possibilty to give the aircraft rolling waypoints on the ground?

It will be possible in offline and in online. But for AI will be standard constant waypoints for parking (in hangar also)

Evgeny wrote:
5) Can you tell us about any new features in BOB that we don't know about?
So far, we know of dynamic weather and 6DOF...any surprises to come?
What does the future hold for IL2? If you stop further work on it, will the community be able to add content to it in the future?
What are your thoughts on the recently debated sound mod/hack?
I have a seperate post asking about the availability of any IL2 merchandise...is there any available?
If not, are there plans to do some merchandising?

There will be many surprises in time. Like with Il-2 we put in engine many things that will be open later later depending of middle PC power on the market.
With 4.09 we will stop any work with Il-2. Really we did it already... just waiting finalization of new maps.

Evgeny wrote:
6) I'm wondering if it will be possible to give pilots separate AI. That in a way a squadron is a good mix of rookie, experienced, veteran and ace pilots.

It will be in BoB. Already is in current code of BoB.

Evgeny wrote:
7) Will there be an in-game multiplayer session browser and chat room?
Following in the same vein, has there ever been plans or an idea to have a centralized skins server?

I would tell right now how will be origanized menus, details of multiplayer, etc. We don't need centralized skins server due to used technology.

Evgeny wrote:
Will the mission data files (.mis) be simple text as now? Or XML...?

text

Evgeny wrote:
9) My question is: on what operatiing system SOW-BOB will run?
Will it be based on OpenGl as Il2 was or DirectX?
Will it be DirectX9 or 10? Or both?

OpenGl - still main.

Evgeny wrote:
10) When can we see some SoW updates with vids and sounds?
Will 4.09 have new sounds? Seems it might discourage hacking.

Sounds of BoB only when beta will be on the runway.
No new sounds in 4.09.

Evgeny wrote:
11) Will the offline campaigns and missions be fully developed? or will you rely more on third party community involvement than you did in the Il2 franchise?
Will there be more programmable camera views and options for the movie makers?

missions will be done fully inside company.
Camera views will be expanded

Evgeny wrote:
12) Will players be able to fly any heaavy bombers in SoW.
Will SOW have some sort of fuel rearm and repair option.
Will SoW have historic ground battles WITH infantary.

No heavy bomber in BoB. They wasn't there at the period of time which we model.
Fuel rearm - will be. Repair - some sort.
No battles with infantry. We are doing flight sim.

Evgeny wrote:
13) Do you have any plans to, or interest in including the Hampden in SoW BoB?

?

Evgeny wrote:
14) And to avoid useless work for theses fans, is the french planes welcome in BoB or future realease?

In future possible

Evgeny wrote:
15) Will there be ground crew and vehicles arming and fueling the planes?

Some kind.

Evgeny wrote:
16) AI: will the AI situational awareness of AI pilots and gunners (also ship and land gunners) be subjected to sunlight blinding?

Some kind You all would like to much and too early

Evgeny wrote:
17) Also any possibility of making also Linux version of BoB ?

No.

Evgeny wrote:
1 Has it been decided if you will release the 3D tools to 3rd party dev's?

It is our plan. But after release.

Evgeny wrote:
19) What is the purpose of the opening doors in the aircraft models?
What differences can we expect in the user interface?
What aspects of BoB will be customizable and what aspects will be closed?
Will SoW take advantage of the latest Sound Cards?
What will be the maximum number of pilots on a single server?

Too many questions. Will answer just one. Openable door we need for visuals and future updates of features .
Sound - we alwasy use the most advanced sound cards that to get binaural sound.

Evgeny wrote:
20) What are the minimum and recommended hardware specs?
What is a likely release date?

I can answer right now exact things. Better to do not buy now new hardware... and wait release or final anounce with specs
---------------------------------
Hope this gives everyone a few things to talk about

Sounds to me like he is gonna hold some things back for future paid patches to BoB. We'll get the initial game to make us drool, then later, he'll release some really good stuff, and make us pay again to get it. That way he keeps making money.

In a business sense, I can't blame him. As a consumer, I'd just like to have everything they,ve worked on in the original release.

About "no infantry. it's a flight sim", I'm pretty much disapointed. Sure a flight sim, and surely not much need for infantry in BoB, but if you think of later theaters... and especially if you think about "russian" theaters...
This is one thing I was hoping to see an improvement over il2. Not as a FLIGHT simulator but as a WAR simulator.

You do not know the power of my lack of interest of doing anything like that for any reasons whatsoever. I do quite a bit of other things with my computer even when sitting and waiting in the lobby so that I surely won't let one video game dictate the rest. Alot of the advanced stuff is not being "held back" until after BoB releace, but simply takes years to program. AI pilots/gunners blinded by the sun is a new concept(*) in combat flight The Sims. Give it time.

Flying heavy bombers will probably make it into the Beyond part of BoB And Beyond.

(*) Footnote added later
AI blinded by the sun is a century old concept in The Sims. The old Su-27 Flaker 1.0 in the 20th century had AI heat seeking missiles distracted by the sun. It is a shame that it took another century for this simple idea to get applied to AI pilots and gunners.

4)4) My question is if SOW gives you the possibility in offline mode to start your mission in Hangars or Parking possitions? And if so will there be the possibilty to give the aircraft rolling waypoints on the ground?

It will be possible in offline and in online. But for AI will be standard constant waypoints for parking (in hangar also)

12) Will players be able to fly any heaavy bombers in SoW.
Will SOW have some sort of fuel rearm and repair option.
Will SoW have historic ground battles WITH infantary.

No heavy bomber in BoB. They wasn't there at the period of time which we model.

Cryptic answer, as usual. I can only hope that there's more than a "very minimal" effort to lock down the code. If the only thing they're devoting their time to in this patch is the new maps... well, new maps would be nice, but I would glady forego any & all new content in favor of secure code!

No.

"Storm of War: Battle of Britain" is about, well, the Battle of Britain. The timeframe (1940) and the location pretty much makes about 80% of the planes in 1946 completely inappropriate for inclusion. On the other hand there will be planes in the first SoW installment that we don't currently have in 1946.

The SoW series is projected to be a modularly expanded series where each installment is a focused continuation of the war. So, the next SoW chapter might be North Africa or the Med or bombing raids across Western Europe. Nobody knows yet... All I've heard is that Oleg plans to return to the Eastern Front as the finale.

Additionally, an outfit allied to Maddox Games, RRG Studios, are currently producing Project Galba, a Storm of War engined sim based on the Korean War, which they have yet to officially go public with (hence the curious code name). Whether RRG Studios, once they've gone gold with Galba, will then proceed with other SoW engined projects is anyone's guess.

Well, it certainly makes sense doing things this way. As long as keeping the new series alive well into the next decade perhaps it will certainly bring in the cash on a continual basis with the expansions.

World war 2 was a big war.

I've looked and looked for the original post (with screens and possible links) of this, but have been unable to find it. Is there ANY news on this front?

I can answer right now exact things. Better to do not buy now new hardware... and wait release or final anounce with specs

Good I've still got some time!!!

The Aussie Government recently up'ed the 'Baby Bonus' to $4000 per sprog! (not enough Australians! Not all our girls look like Elle Macpherson, and normally we've got our diginity, no true blue Aussie male would go to bed for a measly $3000.00) Now I just have to convince my wife to have just ONE more baby and I'm set!

Just have to get Oleg to hold off for nine more months and start being charming tonight! Damn! I need to go and buy some beer!

Any other Aussies out their willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to play BoB on a 4 grand system?

I'd really like to know the PC specs for SOW ...I figure if I can get a new rig ,even before the new sim appears ,it will give FB?PF?1946 a who;e new lease on life& allowme a better FPS than I've ever had before complete with larger formations & heavy flak -stuff that upto now has sent acceptable FPS downward & made me fly at half speed too many times...

I doubt that it's a bad idea to buy a new computer now. Unless it's such a horribly unoptimized resource hog like FSX was with it's first release. But I don't think (hope) oleg will put it out like that.

I guess they are just delaying the announcement of the specs because they don't want to tie themselves down. Either that or they are not sure yet themselves what the end product will require. As nobody has a clue in what stage of development the thing actually is.

I don't believe we're all going to be forced into buying 8800 rigs. But if you're not capable of running IL2 on max it is time for an upgrade anyway.

I'd say to just buy a computer now, as you'll be missing out while waiting for BoB.

Jim,

Buy something like my rig...see below.....

You'll get it cheaper today than I did 3 months ago.The 8800GTX card (You can now get the 8800 Ultra!) has all the power, etc, to handle all game graphics to be produced in the next year and very probably longer, for sure.

For DX10 graphics, you need VISTA and an 88XX series card. The first DX10 games have yet to be produced (Crysis coming very soon). The upgraded/MOD'ed games are still very few (Company of Heroes).

SOW:BofB is being designed for OGL, not DX10, but the most advanced OGL currently under development now (OGL 3.0) will work with, and require, the DX10 level cards(like 8800 series).

In my opinion there is no need to wait any longer to build a new Rig. Your only decision should be whether to buy when you see a Pre-Xmas price drop on components or hope for the post-Xmas drop. Oddly enough, last year for some electronic items (32 Inch LCD TV's, for example) the drop came pre-Xmas.

Note, also, that my rig is upgradeable to 4Gb RAM, Quad-core CPU, and SLI (adding a second cheap 8800GTX card, of course).

I am very comfortable with my situation....and loving the performance and graphics of my Rig with "1946", "Silent Hunter 4", and "Company of Heroes".... See my thread here on SH4 graphics, which are only DX9 level:

I've heard there may be cooling issues or possibilities to be considered...any idea about these??

I built a new rig back in April (similar to Doolittles). I have yet to get a tinge of regret for "not waiting for BOB."

By the way, as of last April, that was the official response to those asking what specs BOB might require: do not build a new rig yet, wait for BOB. My feeling is, if it's time for a new rig it's time for a new rig. If you're just building one for BOB, then go ahead and wait.

When BOB is released for Christmas 2009 I'll see if my rig is up for it. In the meantime I'm loving 1946.

No, there were some screens on a Russian sim site but when they were found by us outside the CIS they were pulled so as not to upset 'the rest of the world publisher.' RRG Studios still have yet to officially announce.

You mean the 8800? It runs very hot according to a friend of mine, but that ain't no problem as long as you get a proper case and ventilation to go with it.

I'm going to wait at least six months until after SOW is released before investing in any new hardware, I made the mistake of buying a top spec sim too early on with IL-2, a good mate of mine bought his new rig six months later for a little less than I paid for mine and he can run everything in perfect mode without any loss of frame rate, I can't... He has a 32" flat screen monitor too, I learned this lesson in patience the hard way and I'm still green with envy every time I play IL-2 on his PC!

Thats the smart thing to do IMO.

I'll say it again, I built a nice Core2duo rig in January and haven't regretted it for a second. EVERYTHING runs crazy fast now and IL2 has all the eye candy turned up to the hilt. I know it won't run SoW very well, but by the time it's released I'll be upgrading or building again anyway.

I didn't built it with SoW in mind and I'm glad I didn't wait. I'll upgrade my VC and get another 200mhz OC out of my E6700 to last me until then.

Unfortunately I need to buy some stuff now............. new VGA namely because that can hardly wait any longer....
When I say that I'm unable to run IL2 at perfect mode you know what I'm dealing with here.... oddly enough, the rest of my rig ain't that bad, I'll tune up RAM to 2GB and with new VGA... that'll carry me all the way 'till SOW!

Yes....be very cognizant of cooling issues. In my case, I have a big case...an Antec mid Tower P180. You'll need something like that to fit in the large newer Graphics card such as the 8800GTX which is exceptionally long...and to have room for expansion with a second 8800GTX for SLI in the future. The 8800GTX has its own built in Fan for cooling (certainly inadequate), but my case has three 120mm fans plus I installed a Zalman CNPS9700LED CPU so-called 'super-cooler' (Fan, heatsink, etc)...this is the copper one that looks like a jet turbine engine. It's also very pretty...too bad it's hidden inside the case.

Ohh don't forget to also get a Big Power supply....you'll need it. Mine's an OCZ at 850W, and has its own additional 120mm fan.

Even in a room here in Vegas which at times in the summer has an ambiant temperature of 80 degrees F (115 degrees F outside), my Rig runs totally Cool.....and remarkably quiet, all things considered.
