Well I use to think the IL-2 series had a poor sound engine. And remember Oleg always saying that the sound in FB is very good on high quality speakers/headphones and with good sound card.

I did have a Audigy but always bought those crappy Labtech headsets from Walmart. I have a cheap set of Creative 5.1s I bought about 4 years ago for like 80 bucks. Now I have recently purchased a Creative XFI Extreme and a Sennheiser PC150 headset. What a world of difference. I must say this sim sounds very good now. And have to agree with Oleg on this issue. (Also ordered me a Evga 7950GT as well) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The more you can hear, the better it sounds. No different from vidcards. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I don't have the great sound card, but I have been using the Sennheiser PC 150s for some time now.

A great headset.

I've got an X-Fi Platinum sitting under my desk waiting for my next build to get underway (maybe another week or two http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif), but my current rig has an Audigy2 zs and I use a really nice AKG studio headset. I think some of the sounds could be better but have never had the issues others have mentioned.

Havok,

Is the headset comfortable? Heavy or "tight" headsets bother me a lot, but, I would like to upgrade from the cheap POS set that I have now.

Head Sets?
I don't need no head sets.
Just give me 100 watts and Dolby surround sound and I'll have the cops knocking on my door at 3 am.....

*cough*
Not like I'd know from experiance or anything
*cough*

Ive had them going on 1 week and used them daily and I must say they are very comfortable for me. I noticed some reviews on newegg state they make thier ears sore after extended use. But I leave mine on rather loose and have had them on for 3-4 hours in one sitting and experienced no ear soreness.

They are a HUGE upgrade from those Walmart jobs and still under 40 bucks. Cant beat that IMO.

Faustnik, HaVoK,

I'm on my second set of the Sennheisers, only because of a little, ah, problem with the wheel on my computer chair....

Initailly they were a bit tight, but after a short "break in" they are extremely comfortable, and the sound is really good. far better than any set of Plantronics I ever owned. And that price is really good. My first set was over $50.

In short they are the best I've tried so far.

I have a decent sound system, with surround, etc. I still think il-2 sounds terrible. Sounding good would require that it sound more like my audio CD of P-51 recordings I have, or the few hours I remember sitting inside a B-24 and B-17 with the engines running.

Hmmmm, I'm now going to look at getting a pair of these, my external soundcard has just died after 4 years hard service.

The amount of holes in the back look a bit limited though. Is there mic support? The forth hole looks like its for channels 6 and 7?...

Talking XFI...right? Its a 7.1 card and yes mic is supported. XFI does it all. If you are currently on a old card or onboard sound you can bet you will see a very nice bump in performance as well. Id say 10-15% better fps if your currently running onboard.

To tell you the truth I never thought the sound was bad.... It could always be better.... but I have been running with Nvidia Sounstorm now for going on 3 years.... and a set of zlogitech 5.1s.... and when no one is home but me I crank up the sounds.. crank down the voices.... and I am in there. Toss in the buttkicker and the TIR... you cant tell me Im not in a P-47 over the Ardennes getting ready to bomb something.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
