When I try to start the game I get the following error:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime error!

Program: C:\Games\Myst IV Revelation\bin\Myst4.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I've already reinstalled the game three times. But I keep getting the same error.

My specs:
AMD Athlon(TM) XP1600+
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4400 (Driver v.66.10, I've also tried v.56.40)
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2
512mb physical memory
Asus A7V266-E motherboard
Western Digital 72gb Raptor (with 25gb free space)
DirectX 9.0C
Windows XP with SP2

Thanks a lot for your help! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Anyone? I don't want my money to be wasted here.

I get this error also - preceded by cannot "create file in g://.
\Myst4\framework\base\private\win32\src\base\disk\ filenative.cpc"

I'm hoping someone else has some clues. I could run the demo ok(ish) - at least it launched. Big waste of $$$ if this goes down tube. (Happened to me when I acquired Exile which would not run under W2K with NTFS file system...)

also heeeeelp...

Cheers

Check out thread http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=580100736&m=6021094522 for some ideas that may work... Have not sorted out the specific solution for my case but it has some interesting clues...

I didn't get the "cannot create a file in ......" error, but I tried the solution (to create a directory in the root of your "My Documents" location called "myst4-revelation savegames".) anyway, infortunately, it didn't work.

I also erased all my virtual drives and I tried another thing from this forum:

Try deactivating the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) layer.

Here are the ASPI layer files for Win XP and the folders they should be in (may be in other folders, so do a search).

-- Windows\System32\Drivers\aspi32.sys
-- Windows\System\wowpost.exe
-- Windows\System\winaspi.dll
-- Windows\System32\wnaspi32.dll

To deactivate the ASPI layer, use Windows Explorer to find and rename the appropriate files. Maybe ASPI32.SYx and WNASPI32.DLx, etc., etc. Then, reboot your PC and start Myst IV. (Do NOT delete or move the ASPI files, just rename them.)

But it still didn't work. Well, thanks for trying to help me Lairds.

The demo did work fine for me. Someone else know a solution? Help is much apreciated.

Okay, I found a solution (for me). I ran myst.exe in compatibility mode NT4.0 (service pack 5)

This worked out for me. Thanks for the people who tried to help me!
