Hey everyone,

Have been playing the IL2-Sturmovik Forgotten Battles demo and I'm finding it very hard since it's my first Flight Sims. I am enjoying it very much though. Basically what I want to know is which one has a bigger fan base? Is one more popular online than the other?

Thanks in advance for any replies. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi,

Forgotten Battles is by far the most popular online which, arguably, translates to it having the larger fanbase. Each have their own merits (FMs, sound is probably better in Il-2 original)but FB has by far more planes to fly and non-scripted offline campaigns.

Cheers,
Norris

PS: Welcome to the world of flight!

In short

Get your self a copy of IL2 Forgotten Battles GOLD and that will give you both the original and the Aces Expansion Pack.

IL2 is an older product and has less people flying it.

The Gold version is something like $29 bucks U.S.

Then be sure to patch it. It adds ton of new features and Planes.

Hi,

Well, I wouldn't say it was better, just different.

I noticed that it said something about the 'passionate' Il-2 forum on the back of the Aces Expansion Pack box.

'Passionate'? - that's a very PC way of saying that there's constant conflict!

Cheers,
Norris

The original had a tougher flight model and it was harder to get kills, IMO. It does run better on an average computer, and the sound was better until the 1.2 patch for FB came out.

FB has better visuals and a larger planeset, a dynamic campaign set for more nationalities, the AI is smarter, you have the option of complex engine management, and the guns do more damage, which I believe is more like real life. A better package overall, I think.

cheers

Deffinatly buy FB gold and it would not hurt to buy BoE. BoE has some cool campaigns, not to mention an online campaign http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Maple, don't you think if this person is a newbie, you ought to explain to him what BoE is instead of just using the acronym?

BoE = Battle over Europe

The original IL-2 has complex engine management as well, it just wasn't quite as complex as it is now.

Get FB & Ace Expansion Pack - you won't regret it (except you're likely to lose your wife, kids, job, social life & you won't even take football seriously anymore...)

I'm just going to ignore the other strange, confusing reply's here and head straight onto the topic: Get Forgotten Battles, it's offcourse the second IL-2 Sturmovik, so it is even better like a new version of a game serie usually is.

Just like CFS, CFS2 and `CFS3, CFS3 is far the best one.

This is also the case with IL-2 Sturmovik and Forgotten Battles, but also remember to buy the Ace Expansion Pack. Everyone uses it, and it upgrades Forgotten Battles a lot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I like them both but woe is me, my original IL-2 disk has developed a fault and won't install any longer. Also since I bought Aces, I lent my FB disks to a friend to try out to see if he liked the game, and since then my PC crashed and required a complete Windows re-install. I now have no FB (until the disks are returned) and can't install Il-2 Sturmovik either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
