I think German (East or West?)
Any idea what this pattern is called and how old they may be?

Yes, not German. It's a Swiss Leibermuster from 1955 and is still used by reservists in Switzerland. But it was based on a WW2 German Waffen-SS pattern, the famous SS-Leibermuster 1945, which was designed to thwart observation by infra-red night vision devices. It was intended to replace all other camouflage patterns used by Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS with the Leibermuster.

Not sure on the socks, but cheap rental of a shampooer at the local store would do wonders for that carpet!

I think it's because I vomited on it. It may have looked better afterwards. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
