I read with a strange mixture of emotions what otherwise intelligent members are posting here and on SimHQ.

My emotions went from amusement straight down to disgust and then finally bewildered shock at the absolute lack of facts that are needed to 'prove' something to the internet generation.

From where I come from, much more than a convenient series of events are needed to consitiute proof, and the providers of such 'proof' need to back up their findings with more than "it should be obvious to you what's going on"

The best one so far has to be about Microsoft. Just because some disparate facts neatly fit, that doesn't prove what's happening with 1C:Maddox and this sim. Even if it were true, you need a bit more ammo than "hey look this is more than a conincidence I bet" to prove your theory.

This type of "proof" is worse than no proof at all. All you're doing is spreading rumors and swaying the easily convinced of your guess as to what's going on. Not everyone is an intuitive Marvel- folks are really beleiving this horse manure.

I would prefer to say I am surprised by this, but I can't say I am. These theories are so transparently conjecture, linking convenient facts, that they look like rejected Hardy Boys scripts. It should be funny, but it isn't. Maybe it's the percocet talking, but Batman, you guys ain't

This is the X-Files generation where there is a conspiracy around every corner. In reality, I think each generation had/has a group of people who think there is someone out to get them. Mcarthy had the communists, the hippies had the establishment and now we have Microsoft.

We need to let the dust settle and hopefully we will find out what actually happened. I seriously doubt Microsoft had anything to do with this. Its not like they have PC cops who can come and get you if you are doing something they don't li.............

Hmmm...from the sounds...it appears they were taken out with silenced high powered sniper rifles from a distance of at least 800 yards...*wets finger and tests air*...hmmm wind is out of the southwest...approximately 5 mph...*looks around for spent casings*...yep those microsoft contract boys are good I'll give 'em that. I definitely smell a conspiracy now...

You are right. There´s lot´s of game genres that make SO much more money than flight-sims. Why attack genre with marginal amount of users? I bet that if MS want to dominate some genre it would be something like FPS games, and that isn´t happening either. Their HALO series are just there with many many other titles, but then again, maybe somebody will tell me that this whole Half life2 mess was actually microsoft´s attempt to destroy the game so that they can dominate FPS genre http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I find the conspiracy theories quite amusing actually. It's amazing what can happen in the wonderful world of the interweb and how quickly a rumor becomes the "TRUTH". We all need to step back and realize this is a game afterall and the parties involved will get it worked out(Hopefully amicably an with little to no detriment to the genre or Maddox games). And that we will probably never know all of the details, for some that may too much to handle but that is life.

Lets see, UBI is a primarily French owned company, and, ok, let me see, Maddox is a Russian Operation, and people are wondering why they are being hounded the US Military Complex for a few pennies. Maybe it is political! but, then of course everything is political..therefore...hmmm. good copy but it means no F4U-4..****

I doubt that there is a political motive but it is worth noting that the computer games industry (PC and console) is worth more per annum now than Hollywood films. It is also seeing large sales increases. So it is a big and increasing pie and it would not be unreasonable to assume that there will be a certain amount of activity in the next few years by entrenched players to close the market to new players where possible, even in areas where the major players are not intending or expecting to make a big effort in that time period. It is cheaper to try and ease out competition from new potential players when the market is the size it is now, or even very small in some genres, than to wait until those smaller players have appreciable resources. The use of IPR to do this is increasing. Also for companies that are not players in the market it is worth them establishing a precedent (even if not a legal one) for payments now. I am not suggesting that Microsoft was involved (there is no evdidence to suggest it was).

Hi,

I can't agree more, Chuck (oo-er). Seriously, I laughed very hard at the suggestion that MS were behind all this. It's just an exercise in knee-jerk finger pointing at whoever seems like an easy target at the time and it's a little sad.

Cheers,
Norris

Microsoft being involved? Now that's not a bad thought. I wouldn't put it past them.
