What steps do I go through to record a flight? In "Controls" I can click the keys Shift/S and the recording starts...but when I end the recording I cannot find where I enter and name the recording so that I can play it back. Advice will be appreciated.

The recording will result into a file named quick000?.ntrk.

It will be stored in the Records folder.

To play it back, use the 'Play Track' option in the main menu.

What?

The name of the file is designated automatically. You cannot name the file as it is being recorded, nor when the recording stops. The first flight that you start to record will be put in a file named quick0000.ntrk. The next time you you record a flight, it will be named quick0001.ntrk. And so on.

To play back a recorded track, use the 'Play Track' option in IL2's main screen. In there, you select the track you just recorded. Quick0000.ntrk, or maybe quick0001.ntrk.

If you want to rename a recorded flight, then use the windows explorer, browse to the 'records' folder which is a sub folder to the path where you installed the game. Rename the file, but be careful not to use any spaces or other special characters, as chances are that if you do, IL2 will no longer recognize/accept the file, and you will not be able to play back the recorded flight.

As for your statement 'Advice will be appreciated', your reply to my attempt to be of help consisting only of 'What?' does not really show any appreciation.
I suggest you change your tune...

Not directly, the original poster was asking about .ntrk recordings (using the keyboard Quick Start/Save Track command) rather than the .trk recordings made with the Save Track button when the mission is completed.

Yeah, I realized that but I just went ahead and posted that thinking maybe he didn't know about saving tracks. I have never used that 'record' thing myself. Not one time in all these years. I just save the track.

BTW, I wonder if Cliffs of Dover has the same features and the same kind of set-up for that.

The record feature is handy because it plays back the same in any later version of the game than the version it was recorded in. The "Save Track" button at the mission debrief screen will only play correctly in the version it was recorded in.
