Sailed into Scapa Flow in January 1940 and there were no piers. Is that correct? It appears as if ships moored their simply drop anchor out in the water.

There are piers. You need to go all the way to the back. Last time I was there (1.3) I found nothing there though. Some destroyers were parked out in the water though.

Scapa Flow was more of an anchorage than a dockyard. Ships anchered there and had there homebase there and rarely went into dock, supplies were ferried out to them. If you want actual docked ships then pay a visit to Loch Ewe http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Gotcha. I just wanted to make sure any piers at Scapa Flow weren't erased by some mod somewhere along the way. I've been all the way back and there's nothing there. Since it was an offshore anchorage point apparently, then that makes sense.

For some reason it doesn't appear on the map but there is a naval base there like all other ports, as deep into Scapa as you can go.

Right. There certainly aren't any piers that I can see, but there is a port. That's what I thought was odd.
