Hello--

Been out of the IL2 game for a while, basically since forgotten battles came out. Anyways, I'd like to find out this info:

1. If I want to play IL2 on hyperlobby, I'm pretty much going to need the aces expansion pack, correct?

2. How is pacific fighters now after the patches? I saw it kind of got hit hard in the initial reviews, but is it better now?

Thanks for the help. I think I'd like to start playing again, but only if I can get up to speed without it costing me too much. If I remember correctly, the reason I stopped playing was that there seemed to be some 'sync' issues when forgotten battles was first released--I'm guessing those have all long been fixed by now, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Hi taylor34

Question 1:
Here is a good thread to get you up to speed
with what you need to play on Hyperlobby and
the latest patches.

http://www.airwarfare.com/guides/patching.htm

Most play with the latest patched
FB+AEP+PF 3.04m on Hyperlobby.
All is explained in the thread.
Of course there is also the new patch thats coming out next week http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Question 2:
Pacific Fighters Rocks! I play the merged
install, so my view may be distorted!

Sure others will help you some more.

Hey Taylor,

You're going to need Pacific Fighters to be able to play on Hyperlobby again.

There are two rooms, Pacific Fighters for the standalone game and IL2: Forgotten Battles for the FB+AEP+PF merged game. There's no lobby for the FB+AEP merged (V2.04), unfortunately.

On the other hand, Pacific Fighters is well worth the money, particularly as you've got FB and you'd be getting Aces.

The reviews were correct in having a go at it as a standalone game, while it's still very high standard there was enough missing for even laymen to notice it. However, as a merged install its utterly fantastic. It's like all the good times you remember from Forgotten Battles, but with better flight models (soon to be more advanced again with 4.0 - Pre-BoB flight model), bucketloads more planes and many, many more objects for Mission builders.

You won't regret playing it as a merged.

Well, ****, looks like I've got to acquire two different products to get online again. Guess I'll have to buckle down and do it though. By chance, does anyone know if you can run this game widescreen at 1280 x 720? That would be huge if you could. Thanks

it may not be as expensive as you expect. i just saw PF at electronics boutique for 19.95, AEP for 4.95, and FB gold (which has aep as a third disk that some of us dont realize is there and wonder where all the stuff is) is 19.95.

I jsut wish theyd sell and expansion pack that had some more ships and bigger pacific maps, but what we have is pretty good....way ahead of anything ms or anyone else makes. the carriers are great, almost make you seasick. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Hey Rmutt--

Aces and Pacific fighters is on it's way to me. Should be here by this weekend. Need to dig out my headset--it's been buried forever. What communication stuff are you using now?

I think most reviewers thought it was a standalone game. however, it is essentially an add-on with stand-alone functionality. It is very much recommended to have a merged install.
