Re. These previews:

BoB2 video 'take off and landing'.
And BoB2 video 'intercept'.

These in-cockpit videos now at this link; the old one doesn't work.

http://gamershell.com/news/24265.html

For those who havn't seen them: They show ex. the clickable cockpit, doppler effect sounds, and 6DOF.

The following comments are in no way meant to detract from what at first sight apears to be a nicely done WWII flight sim, finished to an acceptable standard. It's just that FB/PF (with all it's faults) is so far ahead of the competition. Bear in mind, when it comes to flight sims I'm s-o-o-o-o hard to please, an o.k. from me is high praise indeed.

Graphically o.k. - would imagine the details have been made fuzzier by the video.
Those gunners on the bombers weren't very effective (if they were there at all). The Spitfire seems very well modelled, as does the Bf109, there's something not quite right with the Hurricane - that could have down to distortion from a close up 'camera' angle.
The sounds are nicely done, but not what you'd hear in cockpit. I'd imagine that the repetative soundloops would get on your nerves after a short time. Teerain o.k. from distance. Portland (complete with breakwater) and Weymouth Bay were instantly recognisable. There's no way to judge flight modelling.

The take off landing video shows that a lot of work and thought have gone into it.

I'll probably get it - the fact that that I could fly around my little corner of the world (Dorset) would sway it. But it would have to be very special indeed to wean me off FB/PF.

You could argue that a BoB planeset is small enough to be complete 'out of the box', but just think of the level of support Ic has given it's customers over the years and imagine any other company doing the same. It has been stated that Ic's BoB is just the first in a project that will move into other theatres. The biggest plus that BoB2 has (IMHO) is that it should run smoothly on a lower spec machine. Sometimes my life seems to revolve around coming up with the readies for the latest hardware upgrade to run the latest FB/PF enhancement. I know, I really should get out more.

Just my 2 bob's worth (2 BoB's - geddit? Oh, please yourselves...) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

And I was worried about appearing a little negative http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Those Bf110 shots say it all mate. On the bright side, you appear to have your missus well trained.

Hmm....
Graphics looked ok, but I was turned off when the spitfire achieved 30mm cannon-like flashes on the bombers with its mg's at the end of the "intercept" movie.
The hit flashes looked good, but for the wrong gun.

I could live with most of it, but it's the waiting time for a game to load that gets to me more then anything. Not really the kinda thing you'll expect in this day & age http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Call me a fanman.. but I just dont see why anyone would even want something else other than this series till 1C's BoB comes out. I just cant see anything topping this....... after the horror that was CFS3 on day 1... and all the other WW2 sims that came before and since IL2.... I just refuse to even consider wasting my time or money with something other than a 1C sim... so far it would appear that I have been correct in my assessment.

Offline Dynamic Campaign. Some are still flying Red Baron because of its Dynamic Campaign system. That sim is over 10 years old, so something is up. I want to see SeaFire's report of BoB2 install difficulties and now, apparently, loading times. I have read that original Rowan BoB was Famous for install difficulty, although reading the first peliminary SR (SeaFire Report) pre-releaced yesterday didn't mention any problems. I will head over there soon and Czech out any new developments.

If anyone is interested, I've written a short reveiw on a Games Site:

But as Bearcat has just said, 1C Maddox's in my eye's makes the best WWII Combat Sims around. This was just awful http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Thanks Hots. The loading time is weird. Eagle's Flanker 2.51 (for Windows) waited about 3 to 4 minutes to load the game, contrasting with about 5 seconds for their original DOS Flanker 1.0. I just don't understand the long loading times. StrikeFighters loads in about 5 seconds, but then its fairly simple.

Heck, I was running Flaker 1.0 in DOS RamDrive which made it load in about 2 seconds, and that was with 133MHz Pentium and 64MB of old DRAM.

Yeah you would think in this day and age that would wouldn't have to wait this long for a game to load, m8 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hmmm. 5 minutes, eh? The load times are long, but more like a minute! Then it again it could be to do with different PCs ram etc.

Yes, BOBII has a most definitely tougher FMs. Most defo. If you thought 4.01 was hard, well it`s a piece o cake compred to this. But Oleg said that the 4.01 fms were only a taste of things to come. It seems to me that BOBII is an early taste of what to expect.

There are some bugs with BOBIIwov, but some very good things about it too.
