Hi.

This is from the new DVD notes, section: Notes about technical limits.

It's quite specific.

"Effects=2 ([Render_OpenGL] section of conf.ini) test mode for improved effects lighting. This mode required 3.0+ MHz CPU."

I understand that this is the highest setting for effects.
Very nice it is, too.

Du have a screenshot of that? Is there a difference then to the lighting we have had up until now?

EDIT: Well...I suppose you don't have it yet! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

It's times like these when I wish I had something akin to an Alienware...

Have been using effcts=2 since I got my SLI rig 6 months ago.
Only thing I can see different is some smoke effects.
It does appear to give Big frame hits though.
Have tended to keep it and tried some work arounds.

Its also add shadows to every effect, altough I didnt check that on the flak smokes.

If you have the horsepower, the game looks really nice with effects 2 enabled.

Not sure how many things are changed with this setting, but it's worth enabling it if you can.

Icing on the cake.

Daaaaang. I've got 1 gig of SDRAM, a 2.4 Ghz processor, and a lowly GeForce FX 5200, and it runs fine with Effects 2 on. The smoke is awesome ('course, with full realism on, it's hard to enjoy it), and the smoke stacks actually spew smoke, not closely strung bursts of flak. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I'm going to see if the spotlights and stuff are the same...

Personally, I will preffer Effects=2 without effects shadows.

I have a similar rig, what screen res do you play at?

1152 x ...

The, um...

*rummages through files*

1152 x 864. Runs pretty smooth, but I can't run it with ground detail set at perfect. It lags like heck with only one plane at any altitude on perfect mode, but runs smoothly with 24 planes at any height with ground detail set at 'excellent,' along with everything else set at max. Hmmm.

You also get subtle, slicker effects when unloading some 15mm or greater on another aircraft.

Effects=2 does take a hit on performance; the the degree of the hit depends on your hardware. During routine gameplay, I see no hit at all. However, a good, ball-breaking benchmark is the infamous "Kamikaze" movie, and when that is playing (Perfect settings, 1200x1000)the lowest FPS I recorded was 20, with an avg. of 55, and a peak of over 130.

The big water splashes look amazing with effects=2!

Effects=2 looks awesome but absolutely kills the framerates on my system (my grahics card is a mobility radeon X600). I basically can't run it if i have Perfect settings on- it literally falls into a slideshow.
It's a good pointer to the future though. It's pretty eye candy, but i cant wait for the day when flying through the smoke illustrates the vortex from the wingtips. I want the future now! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
