Been out on 21 tours now in career game and love the graphics and interface, but there is room for improvement to enhance the "fun factor" .

1. Rough Seas... about 80% of the time the weather prevents the use of deck and flak guns.. this needs to be more balanced or be an option in the Realism selection.

2. Fatigue should be an option in Realism selection.

I agree about the storms there are too many, other than that I think this game ROCKS!

This sim is definitely great, agreed. Personally, I enjoy the weather as is -- especially the storms. It couldn't hurt that the weather could be a togglable option for those looking for a more arcade-like experience.

Definitely! I completely agree with you on that one.

Agree with the weather. Several times now I've crippled a juicy target (troop transport & T3 tanker last time) in a convoy and then had to leave it floating cos the weather won't let me use the deck gun on it.
Either that or I get harassed by Hurricanes and can't shoot back......

And we need an realism option for limitless torpedoes.

And for turning of the renown system.

And for a big laser gun instead of the usual deck gun.

And for power ups that are floating around on the sea. We need at least a quad-damage.

And the option to raid enemy ships in ego perspective.

But seriously, why can't they man the flak/deck guns with the wind speed over 8m/s (is it 7 or 8)??
Once the sub is stationary or at slow speed the waves barely break over the deck and the flak gun position doesn't even get touched. I can understand it at 15m/s where the boat is riding swells, but with the water fairly calm, clear sky and excellent visibility being told "cannot man the guns in a storm" is a bit much in a combat situation!

If you want a fun-game, get yourself a console or play something else. This is a sim, not an arcade shoot-em-up!

to 1.
Complete non-sense. The deckgun was available only 7% during the patrols, the main reason why it was removed on later submarines. Besides that, the deckgun is WAY too effective and accurate.

to 2.
Got to subsim.com and download the no-fatgue-mod or try Beeryus Real U-Boat1.22 mod!

Well, a difference between deckgun and AA-gun would be nice. Infact the AA-gun is the more realistic gun, as you have to deal with waves and movement of the sub, using it. For the deckgun you don't, which is quite ridiculous.

I agree about the AA.
Even when it does let you use the deck gun though the pitch and roll of the ship can throw off the aim - I've found that cos I usually fire it myself. The guns were stabilised for motion to some degree to compensate this.
I understood the deck gun was removed on later subs because the merchants started fitting guns to return fire - thereby negating the benefit of having one on the sub for offensive purposes....
I think the main point was the lack of choice in using it in all but the flattest of seas - which I agree with. Even if the rougher seas made it harder to fire accurately hitting a T3/C3 from 500 yards to finish it off should be possible.

The deckgun was always used as a self-defense and against smaller ships. Sinking even a small freighter with the deckgun was extremely seldom, because off the difficulties to hit, the weather and the fact that the 8.8 was not THAT effective against such targets. Against targets as T3/C3 it was practically ineffective.

The deckgun also didn't have a stabilization. Even the guns on DDs and BBs hadn't.

All very true! But this is ONLY a game. And for some fun game play it would be nice to be able to man the deck gun a little bit more often.
I must admit, I do get a real kick outa reading some of these posts by ultra realist that cant stand the deck gun. So, I thought that I would mention the next time you play the GAME, make sure that you dont use time compression either. I'm sure U-boat commanders did not have time compression. Very unrealistic! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Wooh hooow! No time compression! Sounds like loads of fun, fun, fun! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

If you want more gun-on-gun action switch to the 29th in the Med.

BobV_07, very productive comment.

Infact very contraditionary to your original point: Arcade games don't have time compression, because they just modell the fights, while in simulations you CAN use time-compressions to shorten those times that you have nothing to do but watch out for subs.
BUT considering the complains that you have to wait 30min to get to patrol area with full time compression and that time compression comes with the price that you may miss contacts & threats, time compression is very good implemented in this simulation.

Gunfire is not.

.............BUT considering the complains that you have to wait 30min to get to patrol area with full time compression........

Huh? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif Hmmm, I dont recall complaining that I had to wait 30 minutes to reach my patrol area.

Really though, my real complaint is not the restriction of the deck gun so much, although I do LOVE using it when I get the chance. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
My real complaint is the almost constant heavy rain/ heavy fog combo that I PERSINALY dont care for. I wish that I could tone it down a bit for game play purposes. But that is just for me and my liking.

I love it! LOL! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

rockhound, play some more, my boat number 3 have been sailing in calm weather for 5 missions, during the entire missions, the weather can be different, my boat number 4 devloping in 1940 is bopping around in heavy seas just as all my previous boats did during 1940.

Strange, I've been raising hell in the Irish Sea for the last few missions and wondering where all the storms have gone.

Look I'm all about realism, but putting something in the realism menu to turn off fatigue and limit storms is perfectly ok. I know I'm not going to use it, but why can't other people play the game the way they wanna play it?

Everyone does realise its the North Atlantic and not a lake right. The rough seas I think are realistic. the stormy/ cloudy weather I will agree with you I have been running into fog and rain constantly. I am on my 9th patrol and would like to spot a ship far away from me not when its about to run me over.
