I'm currently reading Clay Blair's 'Combat Patrol' - an abridged version of 'Silent Victory'. I thought I'd share some of the names I've come across of US Skippers and officers during WW2. I'm not poking fun, don't get me wrong, but when you thnk the majority of UK Skippers had run of the mill names like Philip Francis and John Worsley some of their US counterparts, I think anyway, had quite exotic names!

Who are you going to be??

Elton Watters 'Joe' Grenfell
Hyland Benton 'Hap' Lyon
Robert Edson 'Dusty' Dornin
Richard MArvin 'Dixie' Farrel
Sigmund Albert Bobczynski
Frederick Burdette Warder
Lucius Henery Chappell
Barton Elijah Bacon
Tyrell Dwight Jacobs
Cassius Douglas Rhymes Jnr
Morton 'Mort' Claire Mumma Jnr
Thomas Kinkaid Kimmel
Spike Hottel

And my favourite so far.... Slade Deville Cutter - Marvelous! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I personally want to be captain Basquine. He's from a book I read, "ghost boat" has anyone else read it? I know its sci-fi-ish But its still a good read.

And my boat shall be the USS Candlefish! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (also from ghost boat)

My favorite is Frederick Burdette Warder. His crew in the USS Seawolf (SS-197) called him "Fearless Freddie". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

@ Liddabit - is that an actual photo or have you been busy with Photoshop? Either way, great photo - it might look good as a conning tower emblem?! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
