View Full Version : After BOB, I hope IL-2 goes to 'Club Med'

The Mediterraen Theatre, that is.
BOB will make for a great game as it is its own battle, one fought in the air.

It would only be natural to follow that battle with the Med/N. Africa where it becomes and air/sea/ground battle, a battle to control the sea lanes. Malta becomes a real important battle in of itself!
The range of planes: From Gladiators and CR42's to Spitfires and Veltros, plus the Germans. And torpedo planes: SM79's, Beauforts and the like. How about the 'Fishingtons', Wellington's set up as torpedo bombers?

I thought that I would throw this out just to get some other discussion than "Patches" or this isn't right or PF is incomplete. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey Moritz,

I doubt it will fit your tastes since you play FB+AEP+PF, but there is a CFS3 addon being created at this moment, completely free, I believe, for the Mediterreanean Air War.

It includes most of the planes you include, and I know the developers have been really working on it for over a year now. The news I hear of it sounds promising, so I think you should take an good look into it.

Oleg said his BoB sim will expand to The Meds(tm), but hopefully after the Poland/France addon pac/s -- those planes have never been done before in any sim. The Meds(tm) would be like any other Tropical Filter Addon Pac....

...except all the New Italian planes never seen before...and Med carrier ops...that would be new in a "Europe" WW2 sim.

A well done Med add on for BoB would be great! As would a Poland/France add on. The inclusion of the more rare aircraft is a must. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It would be great to have the later marks of Gladiator, and hopefully the very much field modded Gladiators of Malta.

I love North Africa and the Med theatres, but I would have to vote for more early war aircraft a la Battle of Poland & France before those.

Reasoning that ( as mentioned above ) - no sim has done this early period's planes. Med and NA really only introduce more Italian planes and nice though they are, they are "familiar" whereas Dewoitines and so forth are "forgotten".

More cr@p planes !

Don't think that planes used in Libya by the Italians in 1940 are THAT "familiar": Fiat Cr.32, Breda Ba.65, Caproni Ca.309 Ghibli, Savoia Marchetti S.M.81 Pipistrello...

I do hope that a Mediterranean sim would also include some "East African" theatre maps, wher eyou could have the more exotic types used by the RAF and the SAAF: Vickers Wellesleys, Handley Page Heyfords, Hawker Hinds... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I loved Il-1 (V1.00) and FB (V2.00) because I didn't already know very much about the Eastern Front, and had never seen a sim on that theatre before. I would be very happy with any of the Polish, French, or Mediterranean theatres because they're also 'forgotten'. I liked AEP and PF because they were the progression of the Il-2 series, but lamented the change in focus from the Forgotten to the Mainstream. The BoB has been done before, but not recently and not to 1C:Maddox standard, and it defines Britain in a way, and has good aircraft and short flights, so I'm very happy to see it.

Have a look here:

http://www.medairwar.com/

It's an add-on for CFS3, and it's free. I have given up on CFS3 because of it's crappy online play, impossible mission builder and some other reasons, but the Desert Rat Team is about to make some wonders with the CFS3 engine.
This could be a good alternative, at least until
1C's MAW comes out, IMO.

The il2 series isn't going to the Med

After BoB is out, do you really think they will continue to develop the Il-2 series?

I just hope we get a good early model Lightning and throw in some P-51A's/A-36's for the invasion of Italy.

The BoB series with fewer planes, better modelled.

I hope expansion goes first to Spain. Ratas and ?? versus Heinkels and real early 109s!
Russia was blooded first there, as was Germany and... Italy I think. Spanish pilots?
What did they fly?

Then Poland alone. One expand. Did Russia involve or even Russian planes?

Then France... so many plane types over France! Will it fit the BoB engine?
Or... HOW will it fit may be fun finding out!

The Med. Would that be in stages?
Africa of Britain vs. Italy and Germany, including Crete and Malta.
Africa of Operation Typhoon with the change in US air command doctrines.
The invasion of Italy.

Will he cover the two big air assaults with paras and gliders by Germany and the US?
Naaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I recognized several of those names involved from my CFS2 days, especially greg law....he was a master at creating most anything-You shoulda seen his gladiator and Bismark. Those tanks are no doubt his creation. Those guys im familiar with are pretty serious and incredibly talented, so that med project should be interesting.

My only concern regards how many fixes and mods are you gonna have to make to use it? They may have an installer that does it all, but i remember having to make endless user made fixes to get cfs2 to function correctly.

It might make it worthwhile to get CFS3 just for that project, at least until the new series of 1c sims gets around to the med.....which might be quite a while.

I think when looking at possible extenseions from a logical and maybe business point of view it would be "foolish" to go to the Med directly after BoB. Let's assume the additions of "Battle of France" and "Poland 1939" take a while to reach maturity even after the release of BoB, it's quite logical to assume that Maddox Games will spread the modeled timeframe on the Channel Coast into 1941 and maybe (probably) 1942. This path would make the first AddOn easier as they wouldn't have to make a new map but mostly aircraft, ground objects and ships.

Such an AddOn would probably make the process of a Med AddOn (which is quite a big undertaking) easier, too.

It's supposed to come in one big installer---

My understanding is that the France and Poland add-ons will be part of the BOB release. I know that the developers of these add-ons started about the same time so I would imagine that they will be ready at BOB's release.
Oleg has mentioned that the Med would be the next major add-on after BOB. I'm sure what evers needed to have rubarbs and circus raids into france will be available before then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Chivas - I have serious doubts about these two projects being ready at the time of BoB. And ... as history told us ... I would not place too much emphasis on what's being said about release plans. I can't see the Med being the very first AddOn, maybe the first major addition (meaning a new area of operations) but not the very first addon. My 0,02 " ...

I wouldn't mind Poland and France releases, on the condition that Hawk 75's are flyable!!!

csThor - you may be right about the French and Polish add-ons, but I still believe they are at least on pace with BOB. Afterall BOB was delayed a couple of years while Oleg had to complete PF. This should have given them plenty of time to tie up loose ends and keep pace with the BOB's developement.
I meant to say that the MED would be the next theater of operations for the BOB series, before the Pacific, Eastern, or Western Fronts.
