Hello guys,

I was wondering what do you think of Twitter?! So the poll is just here to start the discussion but the most important question as always is : why?

What do you like/dislike in Twitter, and what would be a good Twitter for you?

I'm currently working on mine, and well, because the goal is to feed you with news and exclusive (like I did when pointing out clues on the next trailer soundtrack http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

Tell me!

I personally just use Twitter to follow people who scour the web for the best design resources and inspiration. They use short urls.
In the case of AC, I'd follow a twitter if the sentences were very descriptive and accurate and the content was really interesting and fresh. Also if the twitter was all about one subject, not mixed with other stuff, i.e. non-AC stuff.

EDIT:
Take a look at Garcya Twitter (http://twitter.com/Garcya). Almost all his posts have links. That's the whole point, if u ask me.
Microblogging is suited for aggregating links to interesting stuff, rather than containing the info on the blog (micro-blog in this case) itself.

Hi Atmon,

as you know i tend to use twitter to get all the latest news on video games... Hence how i follow yourself and inform the community of any news / info you release http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif hope you don't mind

I also like to use it to showcase my artistic design..

i dont use twitter. twitter hasnt really caught up in my country so i cant find any use for it, except for maybe following other people/organisations but for that i just use facebook.

i've only been to 'twitter.com' once in my life...

I don't like twitter or the other social networking sites, they are a good idea just poorly executed. the hate for twitter is starting to show with certain celebrities getting them self a bad name for using things like twitter too much making them look boring.

I would much rather if it just stuck with the old system of the forum manager sticking anything new in a sticky here.

Oh don't worry on that aspect we will still use the forum, and the official website as our main tool!

But I try to be everywhere I can from our forums to Twitter, Facebook, PM (And yes I answer), XBL, PSN... To talk about AC2 or UBI but also to play http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Atmon,
I'm definitely more of a Facebook Girl. You can still follow people and it makes more sense. Twitter seems like a more boring version of FB especially with just status updates. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Personally I'd say Twitter would be best used for small tidbits, and not for major announcements.

Right now it doesn't look like an unanimous decision, this is indeed really interesting... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

I think Twitter is just another over-hyped fad. first it was myspace, now it's becoming forgotten. Then it was Facebook and in a couple years that will be forgotten.
I think it's completely unnecessary.

I use twitter, but I don't use it as an everyday tool. I was a semi-pro mountain bike racer, but I retired from the sport back in 99. I use twitter to show pictures to other mountain bikers and microblog my activities when I travel to different places on biking excursions. I kinda follow a few gaming twitter peeps and I like twitter more than I do stalkerbook!

the only reason I sometimes go on is because of AC2, otherwise I wouldn't touch it

imho, Facebook is a time hog, there's so much apps and spam and other time wasters. And who said I want to know every tiny thing my friends do? I have my own life to live. MySpace is like a lamer version of facebook that allows custom (and therefore lame) skins and themes. I deactivated my facebook account long ago, and I don't even remember my login info for my MySpace account.
I can stay in touch with my friends just fine without social websites. Email and IM is enough.
Twitter, as its meant to be used, i.e. to post what u'r doing every minute of every day, is also lame. The way I use it is to get a condensed list of URLs on the subjects that interest me, namely graphic design. None of the people I follow are my friends.
A funny thing is also happening nowadays, you go to business/enterprise/professional websites and they have links to "Become Fans on Facebook" or "Follow Us On Twitter". Seriously, in countries where there's no Twitter SMS, you only need newsletter, you don't even need RSS to stay your customers up to date. Sure, Facebook fan pages may add a few visits to your site, but the "John Smith has become a fan Company XYZ" message will get drowned in a sea of other notifications. Plus, almost all people will prefer to click on photo album of last night's clubbing. BUT, for a few more visits to your site, you're damaging your company image by making it look unprofessional, or generic at best: you can't design your fan page on Facebook.
Oh and why can't anyone go to a dance club or to a picnic without taking a thousand photos anymore? "Let's take a photo to put on Facebook" wth! The world doesn't need to know my private life and I don't give a damn about what others are doing. I live a full, happy life thank you very much.
And don't get me started on the "friend"-hoarding thing.
Seriously, I'd rather spend one night with my real friends getting drunk than a month browsing facebook with my "friends".
I mean I can't go anywhere nowadays without seeing people playing Texas hold'em on facebook. Poker isn't poker if you're not afraid to lose / have nothing to lose and if you don't see the other person's face and body language. 99% of those players wouldn't even know what poker is if it weren't for facebook.

I'm Twittering this right now!

Ok, not really. But I do enjoy Twitter more than I probably should.

The beauty of it is that you can follow and listen only who you want to.

A lot of people complain that "it's a bunch of boring crap and I don't care what you had for breakfast". To which I say: Don't follow people who only tweet about their breakfast.

There are a lot of really funny and really talented people out there posting some hilarious and insightful stuff 140 characters at a time. I've found new writers, podcasts, comics, etc via Twitter.

@ Biopulse: You're underestimating your ComDev, my best friend had roots in Malta, and I already been there on vacation, lovely island and amazing history, I can get why you love AC http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As far as I'm concerned, I think that Twitter is a good way to share short news and cool facts when it happens. Otherwise I would come here, on Facebook or on our website.

45% of you don't like it, that's interesting http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

pretty much but I was 15 at the time and with my parents, the hotel just gave me an adult all inclusive pass and my parents didn't care if I drank when I was younger as long as it was in the house or at a bar.

I will admit that I have been following fourzerotwo on Twitter for MW2 updates and Ubisoft for AC2, heck, even fourzerotwo aka Robert Bowling Community MGR for IW follows me. In case you're wondering, it's because he likes getting direct feedback from the fans. Are you going to do something like this Atmon?

Why not, we are just at the beginning and if it makes sense that could be good http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

For now on I'm proceeding with caution to avoid being overwhelmed with forums, PM, mail, XBL, PSN, Facebook and now Twitter http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm always available... Somewhere http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I only joined last week for a UC2 beta code, but now I'm using it for news updates from a number of 'tweeters' like SquareEnixKlee UbiAtmon (lol) and SuperWiki.
I'm also still trying to score free stuff from EB Games competitions.

i personally don't like twitter. it just seems too complicated to me. ive seen it but ive never used it, so i guess i would learn the "ropes" after a while but it seems confusing with all the "@blahblahbleh" and all that stuff. i just don't get it. and as a writer i like to be more descriptive, so im sticking with facebook and blogs. i guess its useful if you have lots of people wanting to know whats going on in your life but I think that you can waste a lot of time with Twitter (when you could be playing AC or AC2 [eventually] http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )
