Hey guys,

I went and installed some skins for the Ki-84 a,b and c models but Ive notice the canopy doesnt open now. Other skins with other planes seem to be work very well, yet the ones listed dont. Anyone have any idea why or is this normal? Some of the ones are the 101st sentai from Mangas and another is the 101st sentai frm Harpia_mafra55, would these clash?

It wouldn't have anything to do with the skin.

As I recall, the Ki-84 planes were released long before Pacific Fighters and so they were 'legacy' models and were never upgraded to have the opening cockpits that were a totally new and exciting feature for PF.

Basic history:

-- Forgotten Battles patch 1.21 (Summer, 2003)included a flyable A6M and (as I recall) one or two versions of the Ki-84 as well as the first of the flyable P-51s. A small 'Pacific Islands' map was also included in the patch, the same one that is now in the Quick Mission Builder.
-- Aces Expansion Pack (Winter 2003/2004) reissued these same planes as well as adding about 30 new flyables including three more P-51s, two P-38s, and the first of the Spitfires.
-- Pacific Fighters 'stand-alone' (late 2004) was padded with several previously released models as well as several completely new aircraft. Older models like the Mustangs, Lightnings, Thunderbolts, Hurricanes and Airacobras were not re-worked to have opening cockpits. The feature was mostly included to be allow the seats to be raised in carrier-based aircraft to facilitate more visibility during take-offs and landings.

I dont know if thats excatly true though Cat, If I remove the skins frm my Ki-84 folder/s, use the base (voild) games skins my canpoy can open, as it always has!

(My P51, 47 and 38's all open too of course)

Hmmm?

The Ki-84 canopy does not open in my game. I just checked it. Neither does the P-51 or P-38. I don't recall them ever opening for me.

The F6F does open as does the Ki-43.

Omg ok then well somethings up!

If you can hold on when I get home Ill load the base skins and open the 84's canpoy.

Thanks though for that Berg, very interesting. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I am sorry, but you are mistaken.

On one hand, skins cannot prevent a canopy from opening. The skin has nothing to do with aircraft functionality. if the skin is an improper format, it simply doesn't display

On the other, the cockpit on the Ki-81 1a, Ki-84 1b and Ki-84 Ic does not open and never did in this sim

if you do have a Ki-84 1a, Ki-84 1b, or Ki-84 1C that does have a cockpit open in this sim, I would be very in seeing a track that shows it.

Ummm either I was up too late last night and clicked on the 43 instead of the 84 but Im sure my 84's canopy opened! I was actually quietly hoping it wouldnt cause I dont want to blame those fantastic skins and then having to remove them. But Im positive my 84 opened! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

And I am equally convinced you have made a mistake

Also, please understand-

skins can't cause this. A .bmp image will not add features to the plane model. Removing skins will not "fix" anything. There's nothing broken in the first place, and a .bmp image cannot do what you feel it does. Sorry.

Yes guys you were correct and I wasn't. I must have been tired (9month old babies are a lot of work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif) and I think I was remembering the K46's canopy opening. Sorry about that. *Heel. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

But some consolation though, for some reason having both Sentai 101st skins in the K84- Ib model stopped the landing gear coming down. I know whats been said above is logical but I cant explain why, I triple checked and it must of been this...?, I removed one and the other and it now works, but with only one of those skins in. The rest seem to be fine.

But thanks for śrefreshing my mind' on the above topic.

Please get a good night's sleep before blaming everything you think you see on the skins

Skins have absolutely nothing at all with the controls or functioning of the aircraft. Not a single thing. Basically when you specify a skin to be placed on the aircraft there is simply a pointer in memory that says "go load the skin here". It doesn't matter at all if its a custom skin or the default...its doing the same process.

Landing gear, canopy controls and so forth are unrelated. To the extreme really...they are very far apart. So the problem you may be experiencing with the landing gear will have nothing to do with the skin and I think anyone can say with a large degree of confidence is coincidental. I don't want to be rude or anything of the sort but in this case yes you are off the mark. That said you may be running into another problem which I think any of us would be happy to help with if it continues to occur.

(The canopy certainly does not open on the Ki-84 as we got this plane in the 1.21 Forgotten Battles update long before we had opening canopies. It was never upgraded to make use of this really cool feature...too bad too!)

I must apologise up front here

But I do not believe what you say. Sorry. Skins cannot cause this. It doesn't matter what the skin is, a .bmp cannot do this. The .bmp holds no FM or functionality code whatsoever

You are making a mistake somewhere. You may have multiple Pilots, which have difference controls. You may be hitting the wrong button on your controller or keyboard. You may be confusing manually activating the gear and automatically activating it, or your baby may be depriving you of so much rest that you're just not doing things you think you are.

But skins can't do this. No matter how many times you adamantly post they do, this is not possible.

Ok thanks,

Oh btw, my wee boy LOVES the flight sim, I must boot it up only when hes asleep or he just goes crazy to sit on my lap and watch. Its very amusing really.

But on track. Ok Ill leave it there, I believe I was doing something wrong then. Cheers.
