Does anyone know how to configure the mouse stick on the throttle, with a Win98 OS?

I put my mouse control on it (the mini-stick) once (XP) But the device does not refresh fast enough for smooth mouse panning.

So I instead assingned it to prop pitch and mix increase/decrease (in non directX positional mode with 4 NULL's in the middle)

Ray, the guy wasn't asking if you think it's a good idea or not, he was asking for instructions on how to do it /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It worked smooth enough for me but I found I didn't like it so I canned the idea for now.

You have to go into the control manager and assign it from there. Then you have to have the software running under IL-2 for it to work.

What is "the" software I need to have running?

CH Control Manager is 'the' software. Here's how to set it up:

- Open Control Manager. In the row of icons at the top, click the third icon from the left to add a controller; in this case, the throttle.

- This will open a window containing three pics of the throttle and some settings boxes. In the lower pic of the throttle, click on the mini mouse (X-Y axis). The heading over the boxes on the right should read 'X-Axis'.

- Check the DirectX Mode box. The DX device should be set to 'Mouse', and the 'Centered' box checked. The DX Axis box should be set to 'X-Axis'. Set the Sensitivity to 80, and the Dead Zone to 5; this keeps the cursor from drifting.

- At the top of the settings boxes is a gray box with X<>Y in green. Click on the Y to bring up the Y-Axis window. Set everything just as you did for the X-Axis.

- Now go back to the row of icons at the top, and click the second icon from the left 'Save map to disk'. Name it something like 'FBmap'.

- Now click the seventh icon from the left, 'Activate Current Map'. A quick stab at the mini-mouse should verify that the map is functioning.

The mini-mouse will continue to function until the computer is shut down. To start it up again, launch Control Manager, click the first icon, 'Load Map From Disk', and click on 'FBmap'.

Enjoy. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Perfect, I didn't think I had to go that deep.

Those settings stop the drift? Great.

mswantak pretty much covered everything you need to know, but I'll just chime in with a couple of tips.

The Control Manager install directory has a program called CMStart.exe in it. If you put a shortcut to this file in your Startup folder, it will automatically load the profile you were last using, saving you the hassle of loading up Control Manager and doing it manually. It will show up briefly in your taskbar, do its thing, then go away. It doesn't stay running in the background.

Secondly, you may find you're like me and think of "up" on the microstick relative to the desk as "left" on the mouse instead, and "forward" or "right" relative to the desk as "up" on the mouse. To configure it this way, set the X-Axis [A1] so that "DX Axis" = Y-axis, and check the "Reverse" box, then set the Y-Axis [A2] to have "DX Axis" = X-Axis.
