I want a good Combat Flight Sim that a lot of people play online, which apparently a lot of people do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Just tell me if this is a game worth getting and getting a joystick. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum BTW, I just can't think of a better place to put it, or didn't see a better one >.>

Worth getting, absolutely.
If you get it, you really should get a joystick too.

If you are in the market for a WWII combat sim then I can't imagine there is any choice to make. . . this is by far the best. . .get it! You should also get a decent joystick that provides throttle and rudder control. (or rudder pedals if you want to go all out)

I should expand on my answer....

"This Game" is actually a series. It consists of:

IL2 Sturmovik: The original in the series.
IL2:Forgotten Battles: The standalone sequel.
Ace Expansion Pack: An add-on pack for the sequel.
Pacific Fighters: A standalone 2nd sequel that can also be installed as an add-on to the Forgotten Battles/Ace Expanasion Pack combination.

My suggestion:

Get IL2:Forotten Battles Gold Pack (which includes Ace Expansion Pack in the same box) and Pacific Fighters. This gives you all aircraft and maps and will allow you to fly online with the bulk of the online community.

Only you can answer this question. Is it worth (for you):
- spending long hours staring at your monitor
- practicing failed missions without ends
- getting shot down repeatedly in online games
- playing IL2 in your mind, at work, or while travelling
- spending lots of money on upgrading your PC to fastest processor, newest 3D video card, most accurate joystick, the essential Track IR and every piece of the IL2 sequels?

No, it is NOT worth at all. IL2 is highly addictive, beware.

By far the best WWII combat sim around.

Hardware:you can get the newest stuff to enjoy the game in full(plus expensive flight controllers) or you can just buy a good stick with Z axis(rudder) and still enjoy it with old PC.

min specs:
512MBRAM
1.6GHz CPU
a 128MB graphic card
good sound card
lots of HD space(4-6GB)

What all said above with one exception......That being if you want the "absolute" meanest tough fight, down and dirty for all the marbles get the

<span class="ev_code_PINK">Barbie Goes to the Sales Counter Sim by Mattel</span>

Scratching and clawing to get that last purse that doesn't match or pair of shoes that doesn't fit...*shudders*...Where I think most of the guys that fly here started out but they couldn't hack it...too much on their nerves I think.....Sissy's.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Welcome.

Yes this is exactly what you're looking for. Make sure you have a joystick (its pretty much essential) and that you have three products.

- Forgotten Battles
- Ace Expansion Pack
- Pacific Fighters

The first two can be found in the Forgotten Battles Gold package. All three games combine together to form one huge game...same game engine. The vast majority of online players fly with these three. It sounds like a bit but Pacific Fighters is typically $39.99 and I've seen the Gold Pack a few times at $19.99 so its not a bad investment...

Plus its addictive so say goodbye to friends/family http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Get the sim. Do what Tully said. Yes you will need a joystick. I suggest this (http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html). For $39 US you ant beat it. Once you get it and get into the sim if you want better then by all means the CH (http://www.provantage.com/buy-110CHPU-ch-shopping.htm) stuff is great. However this X-45 is a no brainer as far as a good stick for a great price goes. Hit the Sturmovik Essentials liunk in my sig to get an idea of what you are getting into. Also go here (http://www.pacific-fighters.com/en/history.php) for a little background.

YES!! this is a great game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i play it almost everyday.

you don't need the best of stuff to play it either. i play on a old comp, only a 1.7ghz, 1 gig ram, 9600XT with 128(maybe 256, can't remember). i also have a only saitek cybirg 3d, that i bought for like 30 dollars new a few years ago..still working perfect, even though i've used it so much the lettering is rubbed off http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

on-line flying is the best....never know the that other human is going to do, sometimes it amazing..sometimes its so amazingly bad your stunned from it and can't shoot http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif also...full real is the way to go...i call it full fear, cause you never know when someone maybe on your six about to pop your tail off, but the door swings both ways...nothing better that hitting a guy that didn't know you were on his six...he panics and stalled out...all the way to the ground http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Of course, korbelz might be saying something different about machine specs after the next patch.

You can pick up FB for a fiver in some shops so I'd suggest buying that first....but you won't really be able to fly online with it unless you go out and get the other items.

You could get all the titles for 38 quid from Play.com.

It's the best WW2 prop combat flight simulator about...but, saying that, you have to remember that there isn't a whole lot of contemporary competition http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Cheers,
Norris

Ok, so I'm going to get this game (hopefully soon) and I'll get the Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles, and Ace Expansion packs. So... Will getting all of this give me the Mustang? My favorite WWII plane and I really want to pilot one. Since I obviously can't do that in real life, in a game seems to be the only other way.

Also, should I get this as well as LOMAC? I've been looking for a good modern aircraft jet game as well. That seems to be the only one that people play on. Sorry if this is kind of bad to be putting in the IL2 forum, I'm just looking for a good game that I won't be wasting my money on because I end up wanting to play something else...

Hi,

P51 will be there..
P51B, C and D models....

Lomac?
I wouldn't know a sensible thing to say about it... aren't there forums for it like these?

Tip while yer buying anyhow: Ya might get 'Battle over Europe' as well, campaigns and skins for the P51D (among others) included in that one. (But don't mix it up with 'Combat over Europe', that's not as good!)

Have Fun!

One thing to ask yourself b4 you get it though,,, are you easily addicted? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

If so think twice before starting down this road. It has changed mine and many others gaming lives, probably forever....

I'm serious
