I'm beginning to think that I'm the only one here that still plays the old fashioned IL2 Sturmovik.
That being said,I love my ol'IL2 game. However,I enjoy reading everyones posts about IL2FB.
I've been with this forum for about 5months now,and I've learned so much about the art of combat flying. I'm proud to be a member of this great community. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I was on the verge of installing it again, you pushed me over the edge http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

No.

Still have it, but don't play it. I don't wash my clothes by beating them on a rock either.

sometimes you see 2-3 people on HL.

PF will kill FB the same way over time if they really decide to seperate the community by making PF a stand alone title. I hope they make the choice of incorporating all aircraft and maps from FB/AEP into the slightly tweaked PF engine, making the il2 series still have a long play life even when BOB arrives

we have all the options to choose historical missions and planesets there is absolutley no need for PF to be a stand alone.

the price doesnt even matter

Nope.... never look back.
Online play is where it's at therefore you gotta go with the newest upgrades.

Offline play being where it's at, yes, I do still play the old IL-2 from time to time. Although it has been surpassed by FB in the most part, certain aspects, such as AI aircraft staying put after they have landed and not vanishing, give it a unique and satisfying flavor. Still looks really good too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for your reply thunderbolt56.However I don't need to know how you do your laundry.
BTW, beating clothes on a rock is way more fun than watching them dry in the dryer. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

I'm an off-line player too, and play IL-2. Flight sims are not usually my game of choice and I picked up IL-2 just over a year ago and due to DCG, I'm hooked. At this point, I have no need to upgrade to FB/AEP. I'm quite happy with the original.

Ohh I think you should.... I play all of the versions still, BUT, put Il2 the original on and have a head on fly by with the Fw190 A8 and the Me109 and your jaw will drop at the sound......... Gone in FB is the shrill howl of the 109 supercharger on cam.... Gone is the spine tingling du du du du du du du du underlying throbing growl of the 190's radial...... No doubt replaced by the same monotonous noise we have these days in the interest of Speed, ahhhh some updates are not improvements but retrograde moves, try it, upload it and crank the 109 up to full chat and listen to it scream its heart out..............sigh bring back the sound, I for one miss it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

He could go down the Dry cleaning route, ie stand there fully dressed and we could just throw the rocks at him http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I still play it occasionally for a lot of the reasons already mentioned, loved that Fw190 and Bf109 sound and the immersion of having the AI not disappear after landing makes it well worth the experience.

One of my all time favorite parts of this game was the Original IL-2's P-39. It took brass coconuts to fly her.. But with a family and very limited time to play I will always choose to play with the friends I've made playing this sim. Offline is a lonely man's game. Just my 2c.

It's nice to hear that there are still some people that play IL2.BTW,what's up with the sound onFB?
If the sound on FB is inferior to IL2,then I think IL2 wins.I agree with Taylortony. You gotta love the engine sounds.
Also,I liked the drycleaning idea.
Good one tony http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gifI still play the orginal IL-2 and agree with with the sound being better. Except for the Old Western sounds of the bullets whipping by your aircraft... I think it has a Excellent sound program.
One other feature... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gifSquare Pilots? But that aside... it runs very smooth on my system as far as frame rate go's.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Fulltime Original IL2 Sturmovik pilot here *waves*

I have Il2/FB but since it does'nt run that well and i don't have BOE and AEP i'm staying with good old il2...

Since i've tried both now for a while (il2 and FB) it seems to me that old il2 has more realistic flying characteristics, you NEED to be a better pilot to stay aloft sometimes..and the sounds+graphics are still awesome and good enough for me..

Maybe you'll catch me or my squadmates online sometime; Sky Knights - soon to be a whole new squad.. il2 only http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Salute to all original il2 pilots out there!

Regards,

Der Tote Baron a.k.a. SK_Black_Knight....

I do play IL 2 - while having FB/AEP installed too. Why? Cause old IL 2 has excellent sound of engines / machine guns. And on pair of Tannoy M2 speakers it really matters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Better FM, making flying an art, not just fun (as in FB). With DCG and IL2MAT its still very good flight simulator for offline player like me.

I agree with you completely,I think the sound and the FM in the original is superior to FB.In FB all planes sound like old sewing machines and sound to me is just as important as graphics.I run mine thru an old 130 watt amp,and a Mirage Sub and a pair of Mirage Bipolar speakers....the sound is amazing. My wish is that they bring the old sound back for BoB.....my 2cents.
quote:
Originally posted by Zeke-pl:

I don't really miss IL2 except some sounds. IMO PF and FB can coexist on the same HDD since they don't overlap too much (different theatres) and have the same basic engine. I would be nice if we could merge them so online play community would not be fragmented any more than it is now.

I love the response from everyone on this thread.Long live IL2!My low-level computer runs this sim well, therefore,I fly this sim well.

sadly I never played the original IL2 except for the demo, so I don't know what I'm missing sound wise - not saying there isnt a problem mind, I dunno, maybe I am fortunate in that respect - I got a new PC near the time of the FB release, so after the demo, I just waited for FB to come out and then bought it instead. Now I have AEP as well.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've never played anything but the original. I have FB/AEP/BOE, but I've been waiting to load them until I get the bugs worked out of my new rig. Sad to hear that it might not be as good as the original. There is something about that engine sound of the German planes that just kicks butt.
