Hi there. Long-time spectator, first-time poster. Thought I'd signup as I'm an obsessive Sh3 player and this forum seemed like an alright place http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

One problem I have with the career mode is the oft-talked-about problem with giving out medals as though they were sweets. I like to play the career mode 'properly', and enjoy the progression of things as though the dynamism were the missing storyline. However, what really jars is the total lack of achievement that comes from winning medals - and the absence of a few such as the U-Boat War Badge (which I've never received) and the Wound Badge. With the last one, it would be a good thing to have been underqualified in real-life http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif but I've been in some tight spots where I must've certainly been wounded (like taking a direct hit at the deck gun and all of the gun-crew being killed except me) but no 'effects' or medal came my way.

Are there any mods that change the game requirements for medals (War Badge - approx. 2 patrols, Knight's Cross - X tonnage, etc.) and, if the latter problem isn't unique to my copy, enable the provision of others?

SH3Commander will give you your wound medal, and correct the issuing of the u-boat war badge one month too early in stock SH3. It will also give you a Commander profile, control over issuing of medals to your crew, and in the mission summary it will put names to the ships you have sunk.
It will also notify you when crew members must be replaced due to transfer, accident or illness, AWOL, death in bar fights, or murder by partisans.

My first impression of Commander was that it was as the name implies - a sort of overall role rather than manning subs yourself... a bit "U-Boat Manager 2007" y'know http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But I had a look the other day and was quite impressed by the aspects that naturally lend itself to "story"-style play. Might give it another look.

Welcome aboard NW, commander gives you much more involvement.
You can change weather patterns, crew transfers, as well as manage your crew and your own career.
Well worth having, but you don't need to use it everytime you start up.
