I like the 'auto flaps', seems a good idea.

ALthough I havent flown it that much. I am usually on the USA side in these maps.

Deadly guns, nimble but not a pure turnfighter, good initial acceleration, lacks top speed but excellent dive speeds.

IMO- very nice fighter, a notch below the Ki84 but still equal or better to the F4U as modelled in game.

Hyperlobby is the only place you need to go for online play http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I actually haven't flown it yet, pretty low hours here ha ha.

But scanning through Il2 compare I would say it doesn't match its numbers ("RL") by its in-game performance. the powerloading and wingloading are quite good, however the il2 compare weight is quite high, not in alignment with my figures. It has a long range, maybe it is more of what it (should?) be with 10% fuel? Should be closer or superior to the K184 I think, and the fowlers (I think they are?) maybe don't have teh effect they should in low speed sustained turn?

I had high hopes for the George when I looked at the weight, wing size, fowlers and horsepower, it looked an all-rounder to rival the spit 25, didn't work out that way though. Oleg maybe has a better (more accurate) weight than my single source?

Regarding top speed at alt, switching chargers and perhaps some other stuff...

Anyway, it's good to see you around.
I miss some of you oldtimers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Thanks for your replies. So, basically it's a heavy Ki84.

Nah, I will gladly make the guide for SoW if we arrange this with Oleg, but nothing more for IL2'46.

in a sharp turnfight, i normaly set the combat flaps manually. to avoid that they raise automaticly and this can go into a spin/stall http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In a high-G pullout, the wings will detatch and overtake you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

From the ac guide:

<sub>
Pilot Notes:
" The aircraft is equipped with a two-stage supercharger.
" Supercharger Stage 1 (default) should be used between 0 and 4,000 meters
" Supercharger Stage 2 should be used above 4,000 meters
" Mixture adjustment is requires at 6,000 meters.
" The N1K2 has an advanced Auto Combat Flap system. When the system was armed (Always armed in this Simulation) the Flaps will deploy to the Combat (High Lift Setting) automatically as a function of G. To prevent nuisance cycling two different G thresholds are used. Auto extension will occur at 3.5G. Auto retraction will occur when the G is relaxed to less than 2.5G. Auto flap deflection beyond Combat is not possible.
" Below the Combat Flap threshold G, Flap operation is manual.

BTW Frankyboy's advice is a nice one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IL-2 Compare gives us some nice info N1K1 Vs N1K2, thankfully we got newer, better and faster variant N1K2 flyable http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I tested speeds,
-deck speed 564km/h*
-speed at 5,000m 599km/h**

* - my value is a bit higher (noticeably tho) than what Compare says, may be because I pushed Shiden to the limits regardless of overheat
** - that should be if not top level speed overall then very, very close value, considering IL-2 compare info I assumed that Shiden can achieve max speed at 5,000m so I tested there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for all the info. Was too lazy to find out all myself. What about armament? rpg/sec etc.

I dislike the automatic flaps. They've sent me tumbling to my doom on more than one occasion. I usually do better in a Zero. But it does look cool.

I'll google a bit how much per gun and r/per second.**

Flak Use Frankyboys trick - when in heat of combat - a lot of maneuvers and stuff deploy combat flaps manually and you'll have reduced speed but higher maneuverability & higher stability http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

** Wikipedia info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawanishi_N1K-J#N1K2-J_Shiden-KAI) - 4 × 20 mm Type 99 Model 2 Mk 4 cannon in wings. 200 rounds per gun (up from 100 rounds per gun internally and 70 rounds per gun in underwing boots for the early N1K1-J). The 20×101 mm round had an effective range of 1,000 m (3,280 ft) and a muzzle velocity of 700 m/s (2,297 ft/s). The 128 g shell had 6-8% HE. Rate of fire was about 500 rounds/min per gun. The guns were synchronized to converge at 200 m (656 ft).
