View Full Version : Don't you hate when THAT happens?

I hate it! I'm flying at 25.000 feet in P51, doing nothing, practicly just waiting for some enemy plane. Hmm... after 15minutes nothing... But then i see spot in the distance. I look around in case i see closer target. Noup, nothing, so i go after that spot. I decende to 15.000feet, i'm getting closer, i throtle down... damn, it's a spitfire. Before i zoom climb i look around. I see A LOT of spots above me and one of them is getting closer. Of course it's a fast diving FW... and wingless me...

I mean! That's very frustrating! It took me some time to get that high. Does any of you have same problem? Is there any way to avoid that, + how do you know which target is higher?

Thats nothing, Ive BnZd my own shadow on a good number of occasions - even strafed it.

So why do you see spots when you dive and lose all adventages, but you cannot see them when you are above?

If you're at 25K in a Mustang you are in charge. I wouldn't give up that alt unless I was 100% sure of a target below me, then one pass and back up.

Where there clouds around?

I dont often have planes disappearing on me, I can see all planes around me (I think?)

Actualy cloudes are helping me. I can see planes only when they pass over clouds (black and white) and when they are realy close. So "no clouds" server is not for me. I know, some people, like you Xiolablu3 (as you said) don't have problems, that's why i'm wondering if this is somehow related with graphis settings. Perhaps even monitor contrast (i have LCD), or antialias (my AA is set to 4) or AF. You see... this whole thing is very frustrating.

Domen, what GFX card do you have? Have you tried different drivers? (assuming you have the latest drivers which you shouold always have unless they cause problems)

I find the 84.20 are very good drivers. Try these ones.

I am thinking that 84.21 will be beta drivers.

Try using driver cleaner and uninstalling your old drivers as completely as possible.

Have you ever owned an ATI card before you upgraded to your 6800GT? If yes then did you reformat before you put in the new card?

I had big problems until I reformatted after changing from ATI to Nvidia card or Vice Versa.

Do you play in Opengl? Maybe try the other setting to what you usually use. Opengl is advised but maybe DirectX will help you fix this.

I will try and think of some other things you can try.

Tnx Xiolablu3!

I never had ATI card, but this version 84.21 is from nvidia website, so it should be final, however, i'll try 84.20 also.

Yes, i use OpenGL, but i'll try with DirectX. This could be t he problem!

Perhaps there are some settings in cfg file, btw i use "HardwareShaders=1".

I've also noticed that: Let's say i fly at 25000feet, and i don't see a thing! Then i dive. When i dive i see some spots (i didn't see them before), and when i zoom climb back to 25000 feet, i can see those spots plus some new ones. And this is happening all the time.

I would mess with some settings in the display config .ini, but remember what you change so that you can put in back. In fact make a backup of the ini before you change stuff, then you can just put it back to how it was by copying the file back.

Ask around in the tech support forum for the graphics settings in their .ini of other people with 6800GT who have no problems. You have a very good card so you should be able to bump up the settings to the highest. Forget Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering, turn them off until you get things working properly.

I have an old TI4600 so I cant help there.

While tracking spots, I realized that it is very easy to lose them exactly when they are on the same level as you. Dots blend into the horizont much more than the ground or sea, this is probably the answer to your question. And of course, they are best visible against a white cloud or the light blue sky.

BTW, strafing your own shadow IS nothing. Some time ago I have even collided with my own shadow on a winter map, being too much target-fixated http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
