View Full Version : An idea to sooth those who dislike the latest patch

Well, I hadn't flown for quite some time now, about a year. I had tried the patch before the last but only for about 3 hours.

Since I had a little freetime the other day, recovering from surgery, I decided to make a patchless installation. I installed FB+AEP only.

My first impression was "Ain't so bad". But after a few hours it became evident just how much the game has evolved beyond the point I had installed.

After playing I remembered reading all those whine threads following the last patch. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Also, install FB+AEP without patches and play for a while. Some of you guyz should learn to appreciate what you have.

Yes its definately a good idea to go back and see what it was like before. It always is nice to see how far along things have come...

There are some legitimate technical control issues that are causing some people to go through hell trying to control their plane. I know...I had them and then later fixed them (so I know!). Once you get past that...4.02m is one of the best patches around.

My worst "legitimate technical control issues" have a lot to do with the guy who's chewing up my plane with virtual lead. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Actually, I used to be one of the whiners, at list to a small degree. Then someone said something that made perfect sense; "it's just a figgin game".

Deep, very deep. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Playing patchless FB+AEP is a barrel of laughs if you have the right attitude. Try shooting down a 109 in a 190. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The 109 can take a lot of punishment in FB+AEP basic while the 190 can't deliver punishment. Unlimited ammo is the key. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Having a bad day? The Hurri is the master of disaster. Those 4 howitzers with zero recoil and amour piercing rounds are theraputic. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The AI can turn any plane on a dime. This is good if you want to practice deflection shots. Forget TnB. The AI also extend. They extend so far you have to enter a different war to catch them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Sure there will always be "legitimate technical control issues ", but isn't that realistic?

As for gratitude from the community, does any other game maker offer so many patches and fixes? This is a legitamate question since I don't really like video games. I only play IL-2 and SH3.

I think we all owe Oleg a big wet kiss and the occasional slip of the tongue. I hereby nominate Danjama to represent our gratitude. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I just flew my favorite ugly plane, the Hurri, against 4 noob AI Migs. I have a new definition of "extremely flamable". Those Migs must be made from gas soaked twigs. The misiion was over in seconds.

Then I flew the 109E4 against the same 4 Migs. After about 15 minutes I finally ditched. I managed to end the miserable exsistance of one but the Migs out turned and out powered me. I cooked my DB601 to a crisp trying to catch Migs.

Next was the 109G14 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif against 4 more members of the Mig clan. I could turn with the Migs and the 108 sliced, diced, mashed, and sauteed the Mig mob.

I also noticed there were not cup-holders in any of the planes. I'll have to speak to Oleg about that, well, if I can pry Danjama off him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

BTW, the Hurri against 4 Russian jets/rockets was fun. You can catch them but you can always kill them in a head on. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Don't head-on with AI Aces; the wasted screw-heads don't understand the basic concept of a good game of chicken. They just don't get that they're supposed to break right rather than fly through you, those drunken, worthless, good-for-nothing sots.

Just a hunch, but the magic bubbles in my beer glass make me think that all the AI were combat trained by just one Russian guy. Uncanny those bubbles. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

He must be a very tired, very industrious Russian; for despite how many of his trainees I have shot down and / or killed there don't seem to be any fewer...

Can your magic mush....bubbles tell me how many remain and whether or not there is enough ammo in my computer to kill all of them?

I suspect they're waiting for me to run out.

MLudner - that last post was really e ominous. Sort of sounds like HAL in 2001. Good one.

Just keep on weakenning 109's. Turn rate, prop. pitch, climb rate, weapon system, engine management and whats next?
Reds are now far more than the blue. 109's is now being BnZed by P47, P51 and spit. What a funny thing.

Funny you should mention that, since my computer is named HAL ...
