I've mostly been posting a few posts about this all around threads but here's a whole new thread just to talk about it

Good service eh? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Basically why are there those white barriers? Why does Desmond lose sync and kinda have to restart/die? Why can't he change history?

Sure the barriers are there to stop Desmond going out of his ancestor's memory bounds BUT why shouldn't he be able to? I might be mixed up but it seems Desmond is Ezio or Altair instead of him just relaxing in the Animus and watching a film of his ancestors

If he is Ezio/Altair then shouldn't he be able to do whatever he wants because how is he learning stuff if he isn't them?

Minerva speaks to Desmond through Ezio (five hundred years before Desmond is born), if that's not changing history then I don't know what is (no smart alec comments please)

If Minerva hadn't spoken to Desmond thru Ezio then Ezio's life could've changed

Edit - It's kind of like the Linear storyline thread but it's slightly different

He's watching their memories bro. You aren't playing as Desmond playing as Ezio/Altair once you get into the Animus

I guess, but the Minerva thing did happen to Ezio, just so you know, in his life, so that's not changing history.

I agree though, we should be able to go through the white barriers but only to a certain extent, not so far you can pretty much swim across the entire Arno http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

EDIT - @Prime - He actually is. The Animus had been upgraded (i think it says this in AC1) so te guy can relive the ancestors memories and play as them, but desync if they do anything wrong, like die...

u mean if the replayer (eg. Desmond) makes the ancestor die (therefore going off the memories and having to rewind a choose a different action)

Basically one big Choose-Your-Own-Ending-Adventure-Quest but you've gotta hope you're going along your ancestor's memories

I'd actually say it's like experiencing a memory. Say you're just chilling on your couch and remembering that time you were at the club trying to ask out that hottie (either male or female). Sure you're experenceing it all over again, but you can't change the past that happened so that they didn't shut you down. Same here. To address the minerva point though, Yes she was talking with Desmond through Ezio, but she had extensive knowledge of the future. She knew that a descendent of Ezio would eventually produce Desmond at the same time that Abestergo created the animus, so that Desmond would be able to experience his ancestor's memories.

Very fair point. And the hottie turned me down which when you are me becomes a usual occurance http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif but now i have a missis so it dont really matter anymore lol.

And thus you learned from experencing memory just as desmond does. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
