View Full Version : Just got '46 and my rear gunner won't move or fire!

Maybe it's all the Christmas booze, but having installed '46 and reset all my controls, my rear gunner won't move or fire when I have control. I usually set it with the mouse left (fire) and mouse right to move and aim.

Any ideas, people?

Many thanks.

Have you disabled autopilot in the gunner position? You must set the pilot position to autopilot -if you want AI to manner for you- before going to a gunner position, but gunner position also have AI auto enabling/disabling.

Press 'A' and try. Don't forget press 'A' again before returning to pilot position, or the AI gunner won't shoot!

I reckon you need to toggle Level_Autopilot. Otherwise your gunner won't switch to manual control when you jump into that seat. You'll still be in control of the plane though.

Alternatively, just toggle (default A) the autopilot when in the gunners seat.

Another one that got me: I tried the Ar-234 Arado and had a go of the cool periscope sight. In my minds eye I thought this'd be something you aimed like a tailgunner would, and the rear guns would track by remote control - as in a B-29. But the sight wouldn't move. Much key hitting later I surmised that the guns are fixed and its the pilots job to aim the PLANE so the rear guns hit. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Not that I'm disagreeing with anything here, or that one way is better than the other, but when I jump into a gunner's position, I like to keep control of the aircraft with my left hand and stick, while working the gunner with my right-handed mouse. This allows me to move the aircraft to positions that will give me a better angle for my gunner and also allow me some evasive maneuvering at the same time.

Just my .02 on Autopilot just flying level and straight and being a stationary target while I'm shooting at bogeys. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Brilliant! Thanks Mr DuxCorvan!

I thought it may have been the obvious thing! So okay... how do I move the aircraft with the stick and still fire as a rear gunner?

Much appreciated. Am sending you a Kronenbourg 1664 as a way of thanks.

Just don't enable autopilot before leaving the pilot cabin.

But by defect, autopilot toggles automaticly as soon as you leave the pit. To prevent it, you must assign a key to Autopilot Automaton (erroneusly appears as "Level Autopilot" in the Key assignment screen), and toggle it off.

Once you have disabled Autopilot Automaton, you can leave the pit without enabling autopilot. This way, you can pilot the plane with the stick, while manning the gun with the mouse.

Although it's tricky!

Note: While assigning keys, don't mistake "Level Autopilot" with "Level Stabilizer". This late is used in bombers to have the plane flying straight and level while you aim the bombs.
