The post is 2 weeks old, so maybe not new news to some, but I hadn't seen it..

(quote)1) Yes, we are preparing full missions'editor for the release. It will be available soon, that's all I can say by now 2) Free: Newport 28, Albatros D5. Also you will be able to get two new planes at the day of release for additional payment - Spad XIII, Fokker DVII. Further we plan to let out 1-2 new planes in a month (preliminary) 3) We do our best to make game ready by 2008. Under specific circumstances it may be ready by first quarter 2009

Holy whatchamabuggerit! This is the first I've heard of this sim... Incredible! So this is supposed to like a WW1 version of Aces High? (Except prettier looking, of course)

(Cr@p! They're making us pay to unlock the Spad XIII and Fokker DVII? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif)

Not just online or online plus offline mini-self-learn map. Not pay to play per time period.

SPAD (an acronym) XIII and Fokker DVII are the first two ADD-ONs with more in the offing.

A sim this detailed, all the planes as flyables at once is lot of extra time and money.
So here is a way that people can play at all for less, by more over time as they want, and
still play online with everyone else.

You know that in new releases of all the steps IL2 has taken to reach 1946 revision hasn't
been what most people would spend right at once from the start?
IL2->FB->Aces->PF->PE2->1946 at $40 for some and $30 for the rest -- has been worth more too.
Yes we who have been in from the start paid more but we also played for years longer! Good deal.

Consider that for over 10 years you could buy 3rd party planes for M$FS the same way as this.
You could get free ones too but the good stuff costs, how many people have real money sunk
into FS you think? And then of course the next two FS's come out right on schedule.

With SOW we will get fewer planes with more detail, RoF is along the same pattern maybe sooner.
I will even welcome RoF-2 with more planes total than this RoF since I'm a WWI Air War ADDICT
looking for more true wide variety than any WWI sim has yet done.

RoF sounds like it's a little (more likely a lot) closer than SOW.. Looking forward to both, of course. But these guys are shooting for Christmas and they're not afraid to admit it.

It's an intrest in WWI aircraft that led me to IL2 in the first place. Not knowing anything about flight sims, I spotted a copy of CFS3 on the rack down at Staples, didn't buy it but got to wondering if there was a descent WWI sim out there... research didn't turn up much promising there, but I found IL2, little knowing what an obsessive, time-consuming hobby I was picking up! Now it looks like it's coming full circle.

Call me Boelcke! he would have trounced Richthofen's kill record if his winman didn't collide with him and Red Baron, would not be a brand of frozen pizza today!

I am confused, was Knights of the Sky renamed to Rise of Flight? Is there any idea of a release date set at this point? Looks pretty good,

Apparently yes, ROF is the new name for KOTS. (Possibly because of the PT Boat sim Knights of the Sea?)

And it looks like they're aiming for a 2009 release. Which is just long enough for me to get a new computer! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It's because microprose already made KoTS 18 years ago, why they would try and use this name I don't know, maybe they just didn't know about it or thought whoever held the copyrights to it had long been expired.
