View Full Version : Swastikas and more

Hi All,

I just bought this game and would wish to play the German fighter career.

I was dissapointed to see that the swastikas were missing on the Messerschmitts, I know they were painted on the tail fin. Is there a switch for it (I have German marking switched on) or do I have to put up with it?

I also like to hear some music while flying, preferably German marching music form the Third Reich era. Is there a site somewhere where you can download it and where do I put it?

Finally, the photos of the pilots in the German rooster look horrible, like Slavic or something! Is there a way to change them into more German looking or is there only a default set of pics?

Thank you in advance,
Fritz

The swastikas are left off for legal reasons, but programs like IL2 Stab and IL2 manager can enable them. They're there, just not displayed. Click my sig, go to your version of the game, under Files there is the Essentials link. Chock full of good stuff, including a small program for enabling the tail marking.

Looking around, under Files and then Music at the same place you went for the Essentials link, it details how to do what you want.

I know what you were trying to get across, but perhaps you might try not insulting peoples of Slavic origin or features when asking for help, eh? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I know you can choose your pilot on the arming screen, so look through your pilot skins C:\sturmovik folder\PaintSchemes\Pilots\

The "De_xx" are "German". Remember the one you like and select it at the arming screen. Hope this helps, good luck and

Weird. It would never occur to me to compare my friends or countrymen's faces to any racial stereotype. Who knows where it might lead?

Don't worry about it Stahlhelm, just use a more careful selection of words next time. Remember there's no tone of voice when dealing with text, and only attempts at it can be made. So it's hard to tell what everyone means. However, yeah, IL2 Stab and manager can enable swastikas. E-mail me at boosh at kbuch.com and I can send you some music files.

Hi Fritz. Display of the swastika is illegal in several countries, among them, Germany. The swastika is actually in the game, but is disabled. You can d/l a utility that re-enables it, I don't recall the URL, however

Don't know. But You can always use a seperate CD player that isn't on the PC

I think you'll find that those photos are not historic, rather, they are slightly period-correct generic photos that can be used in any Axid campaing except an IJA or IJN one. I think you might find that those pictures are folks associated with the game, as well. You can indeed change the pics; I have several ones, including US and Luftwaffe photos of actual pilots. Again, the actual URL escapes me

Thank you in advance,
Fritz

My God! Slavic looking pilot Photos? Who let this happen?! Quick Fritz, burn your copy of the game before it's too late!!!

Nah, I'm just kidding mate. I like my games immersive too and have Swastikas enabled also - I just took exception to some of the wording of your post, which I'm sure wasn't intentional. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think he meant that the uniforms certainly don't look like German ones, not that the Slavs are inferior http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh yeah, you can change your pilots photos or create your own, there are lots of artists who have created some great looking uniform skins.Just all part of the fun.The default folder is:

C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\PaintSchemes\Pilots

Really? I was pissed off because my default pilot pic looked too Nordic for my tastes...

I apologize if you find my Slavic presence offensive.

Carry on.

LStarosa, my thin-skinned Polish friend, I do not find your presence in this forum offensive. I might have, if your pic were to be found in the German pilot rooster, sporting a mullet and a tsarist uniform.

I appologise if my comment on the Slavic looking pics came off a bit blunt, that was not intentional. Relax, WWII is over.

To the rest of the repliers, thank you for your replies, I'll try to download these utilities right away. Much obliged!

Danke,
Fritz

I apologize, as I did not think Slavic was a term used to describe a uniform. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Anyway, as you correctly concluded, WWII is over, and we should look forward to our long lasting friendship as neighbors and members of the EU and NATO.

Bis dann, mein Deutsch Kamerad!

Fritz

ehm... do you mean that German pilots are not very handsome? So don't bother with that as pilots of none country in the game are handsome actually, even in "slavic" way. Also keep in mind that not every pilot of the Luftwaffe looked like from nazi propaganda posters. What is more, best of them who flew thousands of sorties had some accidents from time to time (like landing with a parachute on a tree or burning cockpit...) and it could affect somehow their "beauty".

Greetings from Poland! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, Lidya Litviak for example... from the feminist point of view, this is a serious tactlessness from Oleg's side

I believe there is a skinpack out there somewhere for the Russian women pilots. IL2 Skins is one of the places I thought I saw it, but seeing that site is down for now, I'm not sure where to look.
