Last night I woke up from a marvelous and beautiful dream about WWII dogfights and the only thing I remembered was the gun footage I had seen from a Video I had watched 2 days ago.

Anyway, this gave me an idea...
What If, everytime you fired your machine guns/cannons, the footage was recorded (Just like in the olden days) And at the end of the mission you could replay it and tweak it e.g. change the colour to old grainy black and white or grainy colour. When I say record, I mean in like a macine gun view, not the cockpit veiw....and obviously this option could be turned on or off.

I know the liklihood of this happening would be small and I would much rather they spend the time do other things but this would be so damn cool and I personally think it would be a great feature...

Good in clan battles and you could send them to other people if you have a really cool shot at someone..

Failing that you could just save the track but thats boring http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think this is an excellent idea. Sounds like a feature that would only have been a factory fit though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I expect it will remain wishful thinking.

It really is a great idea though. It'd be great in the sp campaign as well to only view your gun cam and aerial photographs from bombsights just like the intelligence would.
Talk about immersion...

?

Dream?

Wishfull thinking?

Just download JavaGunCam and you'll have an excellent GunCam-Footage (you can even make them "older" with b/w and sratches.)

They're made my several consecutive screenies - not the normal TGA-fullsize-screens, but smaller jpg-files, that don't slow the game down, unless you fire all your ammo at once. It makes screenies of the middle area of your screen => where your sights are positioned.

Got a nice sequence of an online battle, where an LA looses a wing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It was designed for warbirds, but since it runs in background, you can use it for ANY game. (Got some nice screens of UT-Sessions, too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
You can set a key, by what the camera is actually activated.

I can't recall why, but a year or more ago I tried out this Javacam and something about it wasn't "right"...in terms of a realistic gun cam footage Look....More specifically, Real guncam footage was NOT filmed "through" the gunsight...cameras were mounted, usually, in the wings or wingroots or forward in the fuselage/nose in acft such as P38, and some others.
Again, there are only RARE instances of guncam films which actually show a gunsight reticle, as JavaCam does. So Javacam has n artificial sort of Game-Animation look to it.

Any way, what you can do is save the track (quicktrk..*.ntrk usually) when you have a kill which you think would be interesting to see in a guncam film(start recording, of course, Before you start firing); Then, play the track using the No-Cockpit, and No-Gunsight-Reticle view option...Record using Hypercam(or you could use Fraps)...then run the Hypercam *.avi file thru "VirtualDub", sizing/cropping if necessary, greyscaling, blurring a bit,...and Presto!! You've got your guncam footage!
[There's a lot more to making Truly realistic looking guncam clips, but that's the basic and simplest cut at beginning to doing so...Once you are used to it, you can turn out a decent looking GunCam FilmClip of your "Kill" in less than 15 minutes or so.]

Or...do it like the rare Pacific theater Color guncam footage:

WWII Pacifc Color GunCam Footage (http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/flightsims/oberstguncam/fbguncamclips/P51OnKi84Color.WMV)

Or...put together for your friends a string of your guncam filmclips into something like this:

TimeTo Say GoodBye...a Collection of GunCam Footage reflecting the Tragedy of the Victim, rather than the Victor (http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/flightsims/oberstguncam/fbguncamclips/il2fbguncam.wmv)

Hmm...couldn't you set up a profile so that when you fired your guns the ntrack turned on and when you let go of the trigger the ntrack would turn off? Just a thought...haven't played with it though.

OberstWiley,

Great stuff as usual.

BTW, do you know what the music in the combined guncam footage by Raspball was? It made the clip quite mesmerizing.

Yes the word is "mesmerizing" alright. The music was an excellent choice as it was a peaceful contrast to the violence of the images. Well done.

I can't get the 1.22 patch because apparently I need some unzipping software I don't have.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Hey but I have seen some servers running 1.21. Maybe I'll have some luck. I not looking for sympathy. I just need someone to tell are they allowed to run 1.21 servers online?) That really didn't need the ( ) around it, did it? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The music is "Time to Say GoodBye" sung by Andrea Bocelli, an italian "opera" singer in a duet with an English 'opera' singer named Sara Brightman. I am NOT an opera aficianado, whatsoever. However, I 'came across' this song and as with many thousands/millions of others, found it to be, as You said, absolutely Mesmerizing. In Italian, it is essentially a song about the heartbreak at the end of a Love relationship....

I am MUCH older than 90% of you FB Flight-simmers...old enough to have made arrangements for going across that final "Finish Line" when the time comes... I expect this song to be played at that final finish-line ceremony when I get there...Even without understanding the Italian lyrics, it has that feeling of a fond farewell that I want to leave with my son and daughter...

'Nuf said bout that...

A bit of "technical" footage demonstrating how to use the ring sight to lead an aircraft - no music, not sexy, but I did hit the target!
