Hello
I get outrun by this ZERO.
I was flying 490km/h, passing airport where zero was taking off. After apr.8 min LEVEL FLIGHT(my plane still at 490 km/h) zero catch me. In begining he was apr. 1.5 mille away. Is that possibile ?(I don't thing so). I thing was cheatting. Can someone clued me in how was that possibile .Or Im wrong. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

490 km/h (~ 275 mph) is no problem for a A6M5

This type of statements and questions are common for new pilots. Over time you will learn that things are not as they seem right now. Corsair is much faster then the Zero...be sure.

You either need to throttle up or to raise your gear.

Its quite possible...but without a track it will be hard for anyone here to point out exactly which way it happened. Nonetheless...a Zero can do 490kph without too much difficulty so he probably gunned the engine and overtook you. Could have been a second zero as well...

So, you passed the airfield at 490km/h, and 8 minutes of level flight later, you were still going 490km/h?

I can see how it caught you. You had to have been doing something to slow yourself down.

Keep in mind the motor can run on 110% rad closed for over 8 minutes with no ill effects. You don't have to panic when you see 'engine overheat'. Should be able to make 520km/h at least, and thats on the deck.

I'd like to know his definition of level flight, cause even a slight turn or zig zag and an enemy can catch up quickly. Also were you flying with WEP or not, cause an A6M5 running on WEP can catch up the F4U-1 if its not running at WEP as-well.

Real Corsairs were at a disadvantage on the deck and performed much better at altitude, the same goes for the Corsair in IL2. My experience has been that you want to spend as little time as possible down low. During my online squad days, I found that it was far easier to own the AI Zekes at or above 10,000 feet than it was at low altitude. Rule of thumb for ground attack: Get in, hit the target, get and regain altitude. Don't fly straight and level.

The Corsair was faster at SL as-well, although not by as much as at altitude.

Well I was flying CFS,CFS2,sence original IL-2 come out I fly this sim (6 years with IL-2 ) Level flyight is LEVEL Fl. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif Over 490km/h with any ZERO in 8 min after take off http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

490kph is 304 mph. The A6M5's max speed(altitude?) is 351mph. Someone do the math. That seams fishy to me that the A6M5 can catch an F4U from a stand still in 8 minutes!

Roll the film!

Till we see a track of this happening its pretty hard to believe exactly what you said happened. Was this online? Offline? Give us more details. Which map? Which airbase if you know? Otherwise its conjecture, hearsay, and potentially people pointing fingers at the sim or you or whatever...

Track file it is.

anyway, the max Sealevel speed of a Zero 52 in game is ~470km/h TAS (on crimea map)..........

Which mile do you mean. The glorius nautical mile (1 nm = 1852 meter = 1 knot) or the crappy statute mile (1 mi = 1609 meter) ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Not to ruffle any feathers but some pilots are just faster than others, they seem to have a finer touch with the pitch, and better grasp of the various settings and can just wring the most out of an aircraft. And as far as experience goes, I have similar experience (nearly 8years CFS1,CFS2,IL2....) and there are a couple of guys in my squad with a year or two who regularly mop the floor with me. Don't get me wrong, experience is great and experienced pilots are usually very good (as I'm sure you are) but some guy's(and girls) just "have it", and of course we all have good and bad days. And one final thing: What plane is "better" or "faster" is a very complex dynamic, involving altitude, energy state, power and aircraft management and much more, so I have to agree with most of the posters in that while the situation might well be suspicious, you probably just got outflown. (It happens to a lot of guys, including me)

Oh, yeah: on the deck is the Zero's element and definitely not the F4U's.

Hello Guys
It was at apr.300m. And it was on line. I don't have any hard filings about that. I just have to lern how to get zero's fly 500km/h 1-2min after take off .(Actualy 530km/h becose I so him taking off when i was passing by.
OK guys have gut flight http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sleepzzz.gif

I'd say by now that your Zero was in fact a N1K.

maybe you were bounced by another (2nd) Zero. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Klabo, a Hayate broke your balls this time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Why do I guess a Hayate ? Because its the only a/c that can pull this stunt off - its absolutely ballistic at SL.

Yeah...good point JtD. Could have been a N1K-2J.

That would be the MPH (Miles Per Hour!) Statute, that is http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif !

Down here in south Georgia we use:

Kts = Knots
Mph = Statute Miles per hour

I know, I know, we are a$$ backwards! But in our airplanes we have one of three airspeed indicators. One is in MPH and one is in Knots or a combination gauge with outer circle inner circle readings.

My thoughts exactly.

I once got cussed out rather badly for cheating when an F6F boomed another Zero below me. The Zero was just able to complete a turn and spray some mg after the zooming Hellcat. Meanwhile, I'd also dived and zoomed up behind the F6F with some speed to spare. I was lucky to catch it with a long burst a point-blank range that took it apart. The red guy could not accept that there were two A6M's in the area and was almost hysterical with rage http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Makes you wonder how many so-called UFO moves are just a matter of poor situational awareness.

a/c = aircraft.

Btw I meant it was the only Japanese a/c which cull this stunt off, there are other aircraft from other contries which can do the same ofcourse.
