Depends on what video card you have, or if you don't have one. For lower end stuff, there is much you can do.

For my olde Trident integrated motherboard video, setting TexQual=0 helped the most--in fact 0 is lower than the minimum you can set in Grafix menu--ya its that bad but it WORKS wonders for Xtrem low end grafix. However, my Trident would only fly DirectX and crash under OpenGL...anyway back on topic, you may wish to set TexQual higher for working in FMB where you don't need the fps.

Since Patch 3.01 or 3.02 I find I can run my ATI~9200 at 1280x960 with a smooth 25-30 fps, but just found if I do 16bit colour, I can double fps to about 40 at 1280x960. Stencil buffer OFF gives even more fps, but at the cost of sweet shading of landscape on winter maps when the sun is low in the sky.

Experiment. Always make a backup of your "conf" file.

-- also -- http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif I just set my IL2setup to the 9500/9600/etc/etc... setting and tried Perfect Mode in 1024x768. As usual I only get 10fps at 1024x768, but tried 1280x960 and my ATI~9200 gave me smooth 25 fps PERFECT MODE ... but would crash and totally freeze computer after a short while when flying at low altitude. Will upgrade to 9800Pro or something next year. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Water=0 could buy you as much as 7-9 FPS.

For carriers, I've only flown from Akagi, but with higher effects setting, sitting on carrier kills framerate when you look to the right and see the exhaust smoke. Also the carrier AA puffing away next to your plane on deck often miss the enemy plane in the sky, but always hit your friendly framerate. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like the puffing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
