I just saw an official ubisoft guy from Ubisoft Europe talking about Assassin's Creed 2. He said they'll put a playable demo (of assassin's creed 2) at the F.A.C.T.S. convention here in Belgium on the 17th and 18th of October. You can watch the video here:

http://ubitv.be/?home

It's all in Dutch, so it's hard to understand for most of us ... But some will so they can watch it... However, it's strange that they put this demo playable on a comic event.

I'll probably go to that convention too because Next '09 is cancelled here in Belgium... Only Facts is still here and Firstlook is the "new" Next for the Benelux...

Yeah it was playable at TGS but nobody has footage. I've searched all over including a number of Japanese sites, can't find anything but the officially released footage.

Ok, I'm just back from FACTS and I'm typing with my iPhone so sorry if I write mistakes.

The day starts and I had to wait like 1 h 15 to finally enter FACTS. First thing on my list, when I finally got inside, was searching Assassin's Creed 2 stand. Once found I asked the ubisoft guy if I could play the demo but he said they weren't allowed because there were too much people who wanted to play so they decided to let ubisoft guys play the demo for 4 to 6 visitors who could watch. I did the session 4 times. I saw a lot of new things, when an archer hits you, you really see an arrow in Ezio's arm, leg,... Pretty cool and something that i didn't know yet. He showed also the poisen blade, trow money, driving gondola, take a broom of someone who is cleaning the street (you even can hit people with it) and so on ... Tomorrow I'm going back and hopefully I'll get a hands-on then and this afthernoon I'll write the full presentations that I saw but now you guys have already some new facts

He said it could be used for combat but it would be in two pieces by only one hit of the sword. (btw I'm still on my iPhone so I can't post my full text now ... Probably I will be home in 15 minutes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Okay finally I'm on my pc http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Let's start with telling my sessions (summarised with the new facts that I saw/asked):

In my first session the Ubisoft-Guy told me that you earn money with your city, like we already knew, stealing, finding treasures that are spread over the city and guarded by guards, completing side quests and missions and money that you find by searching trough items (like the Gondola thing). After he said that he started with explaining the bars of AC2.
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/899/picture4m.png

Around Ezio's sign (left corner) you see a bar that is filled with red, this shows your wanted level and it will be like in GTA (like it was already mentioned by some hands-on articles and so on...) Next to that you see the bar with your life and this one won't refill (I know it was already known). After that explanation he showed us everything you can buy from the blacksmith (all the weapons) and it were a lot of weapons. So he showed the Venetian sword, Hammer, some kind of dagger, smoke bombs, Florentine knives (or something) and a lot more. It was divided in two parts; Small weapons and large weapons. The small ones are the daggers and so on, the large ones are swords like the Venetian sword. Also armour repair and armour shields you could buy from the blacksmith. He also showed another shop, the tailor. There were many colours and types of clothes (all in the same style of the main clothes of Ezio but with slightly differences). He didn't buy any of them but just wanted to show us the shop.

Ok, enough shopping he said and we continued with the mission. He swum a lot and used the gondola sometimes and he said that there were still some bugs that they had to fix of the Gondola's, some texture bugs and so on... So I hope he was right about that because when we got in the cut-scene of the thieves leader you see a bookshelf and the books are hideous (but still I don't say that the graphics are bad! Because they are stunning when there aren't cut-scenes!) Also you have interactions in the cut-scenes (pressing buttons and so on) also to make AC2 more variable. After the cut-scene, some swimming, he told us that we would have three big cities; Rome, Venice and Florence, and the large countryside Tuscany with a lot of villages.(I loved it when he confirmed Rome ^^ )

We get on the roofs, kill some archers, getting an arrow in Ezio's body (that doesn't disappear for the first 10 seconds or something, I don't remember if Ezio pulled it out of his body or something but he didn't regain life.) Then we got of the roofs and the ubisoft guy showed us the courtesans and thieves that you can hire. He didn't use the courtesans (pretty disappointing because I've seen the session 4 times with him so I hoped he would use them once) but still it was fun because sometimes the thieves attack them immediately (when they see the guards) or they flee and the guards run after them and so on... He also showed that you could pull down the wanted posters and it will reduce the wanted level with 15%!

Then we climb on the palace where our target is. He says that you won't be able to climb buildings like the castle or high buildings in the beginning of the game because you need to learn certain moves to get on the highest buildings. But this won't take too long to learn those moves. (He also confirmed again that you'll play Ezio as a Young man and as an Old one...40 years of his life but he didn't mention if that is starting from Ezio's birth or when Ezio is already 18 years old).

After entering the palace he kills the guard and the target where you get a cut-scene like in AC1 where you talk with the target. Tomorrow I maybe will be able to tell more (new) things. Btw read my previous post about the broom http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You can buy all the weapons? Nice, I was wondering about that.... does that mean Ezio can carry a Hammer around instead of a sword?

Did Ezio collect a lot of money from a small amount of things? You know, in order to make up for having to heal yourself, repair armour, throw coins at vagabonds, etc.?

This kind of makes me think about ways Ubi could make removing the wanted posters more fun and challenging. They could do things such as post a guard next to certain posters during the day but have the sight be unguarded at night. Then the player would have to come up with ways to displace the guard. Kill someone in the nearby crowd and grab the poster while the guard investigates, use the courtesans, simply kill them, have the mercs attack civilians across the street, etc. I feel like including this single idea would add a lot of fun and variety to an otherwise mundane task.

Yes you can carry a Hammer that you bought. You just pull the cape over it so you don't attract the attention of the guards (same with the swords and daggers they are all under your cape... (he also said that the dude from ubisoft http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif, forgot to mention it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

The treasure from the gondola was 100 f in the first session, in the second session an other gondola had 150 f so it differs. You also get money of your city (and when you buy something, the picture of your city appears with the note that you spend xxx coins). When you steal people you get (at most if you don't want to get wanted) 3 f.

I think the only extra weapon I'll carry around will be a knife/shortsword. It looks more effectively concealed since it doesn't poke out the bottom of the cape.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Agreed. But if the situation changes, I'll switch it up with a mace or axe. After all, and quote from Al Mualim "It's our ability to adapt that makes us who we are".

thekyle0

I only said it was the weapon I'd carry around. Well, that will be the case for at least one of 783 times I'll replay the story. But disarming opponents for better weapons is something I plan to do anyway. (especially if they're using a broom) Of course if I'd rather start a fight with a really good weapon then I'll just stalk the streets for a single guard, assassinate them, loot their weapon and then head back to where I wanted to fight my way to an objective. Probably will stop by a group of mercs along the way. It's fun to be lazy yet effective.

@ Cpt_Yanni : So you say you're going back tommorrow. Is there anything special happening or is it just the same as what happened today? Albiet the possibility that they might demonstrate how to use the courtesans...... to distract guards.

SinNyxAtra
10-17-2009, 01:17 PM
True. and since we can use broom as a weapon... I'm waiting for another of Kaxen's predictions to come to light aka smacking someone with a fish, in a cut scene at least. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Well to get back on the topic of FACTS http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif >>

I played the demo today and the ubisoft guy answered some questions that I asked. About the HUD question he said that it isn't enabled in the demo and he doubts it will be enabled in the full game. When I played I did a lot of cool things; used poison, throwing money ability and smoke bomb thing at once and it was way to fun ^^ . The arrows disappear when you climb or fall in the demo but he said that it could be that Ezio will pull them out in the final game.

I also got the full wanted level and really; it's f*cking difficult (ok maybe it was also difficult because I had to play it on a xbox360 (while I'm used to play a PS3 system http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ))
But the combat is more difficult and the guards are stronger. Also the ubi guy said that this wasn't the final AI and like in previous posts was said; some shaders have to be turned on in the last game so textures will look slightly better). Ok I could play it for 15 minutes (or little more) and it was really awesome but the painful thing is that WE still have to wait 30 days and really... It's harder now to wait!

I could tell you guys more and more and more (till every second) but please ask when you have questions ;-)

Edit:
ow yeah; swords cost arround 10 000 f and hammers or smaller weapons 3400 f (it's not the exact price but the priceclass that I remember of these weapons http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

Cpt_Yanni, I've got a question about Ezio's cape...so, whats with that when he pull it on, so it covers he's left hand (fully), is that the new "blend" move to hide your weapons from the guards? And if so, witch button activates it? Somebody told me that, when you're in low profile, Ezio use it automaticly...? I've also noticed that when you're with the poison blade he does it again to hide his hand...

Cpt_Yanni
10-18-2009, 12:29 PM
@ Cornik:

Yes you can throw it anywhere en whenever you want. In the demo I didn't need the white floor thing...

@ Nateoak and sackboy:

A weapon that you've bought will be put under Ezio's cape but you can drop it like any weapon that you want. The ubiguy told something that some weapons that you have bought you can collect them in your home and you'll never lose them or something. But still, weapons you've bought will be "drop-able" It's something like GkrewZ says http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

@ GariStz

The cape is pulled automatically over the weapons. It's used to make you less suspicious by the guards. About hiding his hand, that's not completely correct or incorrect, it's not mentioned why the ubiguy and I didn't notice anything special with the cape when I use the poison blade. He just automatically pulls it over his weapons http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Something I forgot to mention in my last posts:

You can also hide in Water wells (next to hay-carts and so on...)

Yes you can throw it anywhere en whenever you want. In the demo I didn't need the white floor thing...
Proving my theory that if you throw money to the water the npcs will go lemmings mode (hopefully http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)

Are the climbing controls the same? I read somewhere that they made it so u had to hit the feet botton to push up and u had to hit a hand botton to grab or something crazy like that.

Actually, the ubisoft guy told me that you have to repair your weapons from time to time.

@Nateoak

I think that you only have weapons you buy in your inventory and not the weapons you find from guards, don't take my word on this though, didnt really try that out. (I dropped the sword I stole from the guard after the fight)

Anyway...

The HUD, you really can turn off everything? Even the white lines on the floor when you throw money, the "focus effect" on the enemy, the arrows above a group of mercenaries/thieves/courtesans...?

And also, the notoriety meter, when its full (red) I see the logo of the assassins (that's my question, because of the bad video quality), but when its white what does it showing? The insignia of the new animus?

Can you still overkill a guard? (Counter a strong attack, swipe them when they're falling to the ground, then while their crying on the ground you assassinate them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif.)

You couldn't turn it off in the demo and I asked the ubi guy if it would be possible in the FULL game and he said that he doubts it...

So the D-Pad is a yes Yanni? A double confirmation would be nice.

Oh yeah, you guys probably knew this already, but I was really happy to see subtitles! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm really looking forward to play in these three beautiful cities and the Toscanian countryside.

And about the controls, there was a jump upward and you could only grab to a ledge higher if you used the ledge grab thingy from AC1

Since I'm not a xbox 360 owner (and I didn't play AC1 on the xbox 360) I don't know if the controls are the same (Demo was on a 360 ). But I could play the game really fast cause I knew the controls of AC1 on PS3 and they are slightly different but still, I think the d-pad has his old, same, I assume that the function of the PS3's D-pad still has its old function...

I have a question for those of you who played the game. Who the heck is this guy?! He looks like a monk, and itīs obvius that you can interact with him.

I dont know who that is, but I am not sure if you can interact with him...I think it is just a random NPC http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

in case u didnt read some of the interviews i would like to bring u up to speed on the fact that u can interact in one way or another with every character in the game.(i.e. pickpocket, stealth assassinate, air assassinate, throw money to them, etc.)

I already know that, but the misterious monk is not a random npc because random npcs donīt "glow". When Ezio runs away from a group of guards, he is the only one in the wole sequence (except for the guards) to be "glowing", meaning that you can talk to him. The first time I saw this guy was at the beggining of the ilegal PAX video (Florence demo), and he was the only one glowing apart from the street doctor. And you can "talk" with the street doctor to buy stuff, so...

I didn't play the game; but I would guess that's an orator. One of the guys who Ezio can bribe to stop announcing to citizens that they must look out for him.

Judging by the fact that before Ezio scared his robes off of him, he was standing under what appeared to be an awning, waving his arm about as if to address the crown, and appeared to be speaking in a bold, informative tone.

This is why I believe he was an Orator.

So this is the guy you have to pay to stop talking about you when your notoriety is too high? Cool! Thank you Kyle.
