View Full Version : Updated one shot one kill list

I've found a few more weak points on ships. Anyone who wants to add, feel free. Please note that it assumes a solid attack angle (88-92 degrees). Range is irrelevant. Depth is set to minimum. I haven't tried the SH3 tactic of a torpedo under the hull, so if anyone's tried this, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm all about creative use of torpedoes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Large Tanker - a torpedo hit directly below the rear smokestack that causes a secondary explosion (you have to be dead on to cause this) sinks a tanker (albiet slowly) 100% of the time. Strangely, the bow tends to stick out of the water for awhile before sinking.

Heavy Cruiser - I seem to only ever see the largest heavies, but a torpedo between the two funky smokestacks that blend into one causes a secondary explosion that sinks it every time.

Fleet Carriers - I'm still working on this one, but a torpedo directly below the conning tower on the side OPPOSITE the tower seems to trigger a chain reaction about 50% of the time. Failing that, I've never seen a carrier I couldn't sink with two torpedoes - one in the front of the conning tower and one about 3/4 of the way back. They roll over and go down.

Large Composite Freighters - a torpedo just in front of the main superstructure causes a secondary that cuts the ship in half. This is an odd one, when I've missed the critical location it seems to do absolutely nothing to the ship, other than make it start to zig zag.

Destroyers (all types) - a torpedo directly below the conning tower will either cause a secondary and blow the ship or simply sink it, depending on the type. This has to be done with a solid 90 degree shot, not a from the hip while you're being chased attack.

Ships I haven't been able to take with one shot:

Battleships of any size
Seaplane tenders (but I rarely see them, so not much practice)

Pretty much everything else is a one shot kill if you hit the boat in the right place.

Light Cruisers (KAMA).....directly under the aft gun mounts, set torp at 10 feet and the secondary explosions (3) will walk up to the bow of the ship. Turrets and parts flying every-which-away.

Kongo battleship (moored), single torp hit under B turret, standard depth. I wasn't expecting it so 2 more already fired torps were wasted on the already sinking ship.

Huge European Liner and Old Passenger Carrier. Midships, between the stacks.

Here's another:
Gunboat - Shallowest depth, amidships
Hit one in a patrol last night with a Mk.10... Looked like Bruce the Great White took a bite out of it.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
Another weak spot on a Heavy Cruiser appears to be under the "B" turret (2nd turret back from the bow). On the "torpedo school" mission, I can get a one-shotter every time hitting it there - massive secondaries http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Possibly, any of the BB's have a similar weak spot, since main gun ammo was stored there.

yeah thats all good but if u dont have time to be creative with torps u can sink shokaku with one hit. u hit it in the bow if it is moving forward water will break trough into it and it will sink after a minute or two

Subchaser - Anywhere!

Destroyers will usually sink in one hit if you hit them amidships with a torp set to default (six feet).

Is that with manual or automatic TDC? I use automatic and it seems no matter where I aim, the torpedo hits somewhere around the back half of the ship.

Now I do like to do magnetic torpedo runs myself, it gives me warm fuzzies to see those holes on the bottom of the ship http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif What I would do was save the game and run the depths until I got a good series of magnetic detonations then mark the depth on the ship recognition in my booklet. Regrettably before I could get too far into my project my computer died and now I get growled at everytime I look over at my wife's computer. I mean, who cares about the Sims when you can make things go boom! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I miss the big chain reaction shots to the destroyers in SH3, hit em in the vicinity of the aft turret/depth charge racks and they go up like fireworks

Could anybody maybe take some screenies of the recognition manual with a visual mark of whereabouts to aim for here? I've tried a few one-shots and don't seem to hit the sweet spot.

Asking for a fair amount of work I know, but if anybody knows the areas to hit it would be great to have a reference like this with pics....

hmm... I took out a Yamato in three, just aim at the forward turret (1/3 from the front)

popped three in at once, nice explosion.

I know where to hit the fuso in one shot. As low as possible thats 30-32 feet between the 2 front guns. Blows the command tower up and sinks down slowly. The explosion sank a destroyer also. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gifDidn't get the points for it.

Huge European liner is easy 28 feet right between the 2 stacks. She'll explosed and go down.

Hey Doug,

I'd like to read your post, but I can't seem to take my eyes off your avatar. It's kinda mesmerizing.

Hmm... we've got some telepathy here: it's almost the same thing I was about to write...
