I check only limited ammo & clouds.
What about you?

Full real + speedbar

i fly on open Dogfightservers and COOPs when as max Speedbar and Mapicon are allowed- but i fly for sure also when these two are disabled (heading should be given!) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .
Icons, even limited ones, are a reason not to join for me.

if i fly with my Squad for fun in Teammissions we have outsideview enabled.

Full real + speedbar for the ladies http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Full switch except map icons. I find the speedbar a real immersion killer.

03-19-2007, 06:49 AM
I use speedbar because it's hard to me convert mph to kmh and feets to meters during flying on english and US planes.

03-19-2007, 07:32 AM
full switch + speedbar... "no speedbar" are for linguistics and people who can see thorugh objects. I find the lack of it a real immersion killer.

map icons OFF... it SHOULD be more difficult to navigate than try to figure out your speed.

I like flying full real, but find the lack of 6DOF utterly unrealistic as IRL pilots had much much better situational awareness and view out of cockpit, so I fly externals on quite a lot too (where F6 does the same job of immersion killing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif).

I wish also messages like "engine overheat" "cannon jammed" etc etc could be turned off.

Full switch = a usefull expression that describes perfectly what it is.

Full real = self delusion.

I turned off the HuD thing, so no more hints that I'm overheating my engine anymore.

The speed bar's useful in a Spit where the compass is eclipsed by the joystick.

If online, full real except the speedbar. ( Just started flying online a month ago...I'm the jungle camo Ki-61 that's so easy to shoot down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Offline, same but I'll allow external views and minimap paths. I'm also slowly getting used to no icons, but I'll use them when I "just want to shoot something" rather than fly for a purpose. Sort of like a golfer's version of hitting a bucket of balls at a driving range as opposed to playing a round.

I used to sporadically use "wonder woman view" on A/C with lousy vision, but since getting a Track IR, I find there's no need. Heck, if you try to use that view with TIR it'll confuse you all the more...almost vertigo-ish.

Full Switch + Speedbar too, but when I am playing campaigns I switch Instant Success

Even with speedbar switched off you still get the heading http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I prefure full switch but lazy enough to use the speed bar.

So I usually just check for cockpit only, If I'm just wanting a place to have fun. I can toggle icons, and speed bar off if I want. I dont use the ingame map anyways, I have them laminated.

I just wont fly WW view, strickly due to the fact real world manuvers, don't work with that view enabled.

I have read many books by real WWII pilots, and to a man they all comment on how handy "no instant success" was when they failed to complete their mission goals. Hang on, Hitler, I need to bomb Ploesti until I get the mission success message, you crazy cat you!

03-19-2007, 10:22 AM
True, I took 'no speed bar' to mean using all the dials and stuff instead of the optional little pile of data in the bottom left, generic of me I know.

03-19-2007, 10:27 AM
All i need is minimap...dont care about anything else http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

03-19-2007, 10:51 AM
Full switch + speedbar. The real pilots were used to their respective measuring system and didn't have to learn to read knots/mph/kmh and feet/km etc etc and were also fully trained on the instruments on the plane they were flying. I shouldn't have to struggle to read the dials when I fly US or British planes just because I happen to be born in a country using the metric system. I can live with having to navigate manually as that's what they had to do in real life as well, but i'll turn map paths on occasionally when i'm being lazy, never map icons though.

03-19-2007, 11:44 AM
In my campaigns everything except,
-External views for sightseeing
-minimap path

and -"no instant success" but that's actually increasing realism

Online I prefer to fly bombers/ground attack aircraft on Full Real servers

03-19-2007, 12:12 PM
Full switch, except for the minimap path-I don't really feel like navigating.

If I'm playing a campaign I might turn instant success on so that if I get shot up over the target I can focus more on getting my damaged crate home. To me its more realistic to get back and fail to fully complete the mission than to play it three times in a row.
