{in my 4 year old's best whiny voice while stomping feet} I want it now!

Seriously, what's up with this sim, or any other WW1 projects for that matter? The Gennadich.com website is weird now, and a search here did not produce much. I've been waiting since RB3d for a decent WW1 sim. It's been so long I'm about to just build one myself.

Not sure whats going on with Knights of the Sky, but I reinstalled RB3d a few months ago, and having a great time with it - mods etc have done wonders for the old title, giving better graphics and more aircraft, and still has a large following today http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif.

I tried Over Flanders Fields for a while (phase 2), but didn't really like it - however phase 3 is coming out soon so I'm keeping an eye on that.

RB3d (modded) is still King!

Some info at SimHq...screenshots etc.
They have a new publisher who will be starting a new game site closer to release.

RB3D - IMO one of the GREATEST flight sims in terms of overall design and immersion ever to appear on a PC screen.

Red Baron 3D. I keep hearing this referenced as the granddaddy of WWI flight sims, and I'm very interested in trying it. It's an old title though, isn't it? Is it available as a free download or do you have to buy it? If so, where's the best place to get it? I've Googled it a few times recently and see references to it being available for free as a download (the free download links didn't work) and also saw it available at amazon (only used) for no less than $42. Can anybody who knows more about it offer those of us who are interested in the title some information? The best/cheapest way to get the sim, what patches are needed, their opinion on the quality of the sim, etc?

Thanks,
Riggs

You can go to the link above which tells you how to download the game for free (It's legal, abandonware http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif). You may also like to visit http://wings-of-valor.net/, which gives links to many mods which keep the game alive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I'm new to the mods, I'm currently using Hells Angels supermod and the increase in graphics is amazing! There are many more mods out there but Hells Angels is a good one to start off with apparantly. You will need to use at least a graphics mod because the game will run too fast with stock graphics, making aircraft impossible to control.

Quality? Well I think the fact that people are still playing it over 10 years after release says enough http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

"Red Baron 3D (RB3D) captures the W.W.I era of aerial combat with missions that accurately reflect the talent and skill needed to be successful as a fighter pilot.

First released in 1992 as Red Baron, then in 1995 as Red Baron II and again in 1998 as Red Baron 3D (RB3D), the game was originally produced by Dynamix/Sierra. Red Baron 3D is no longer published commercially. A few are still available second hand via internet sales such as Ebay however."

I was about to type something similar, and then I just copied this off of Googly's link. One correction, however, is that Red Baron II actually came out in 1997. I bought a copy, and then got RB3D for free when it came out a year later. RBII was so buggy that the company gave all RBII purchasers a free copy on exchange.

Third Wire's First Eagles part 1 & 2 are well worth it if you are a WW-1flight sim fan.Very nice aircraft & interiors,TrackIR friendly too!Nicely done & plenty of various downloads available to improve it.
Its the only thing on the horizon while waiting!
Thumbs up!

as it looks like SoW:BoB will come later and later................... i hope KotS will be relased some earlier as Maddox's game.
but these hopes are very small http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I read the website from the link, but it seems an awfully lot of stuff to do in order to use the soft ware. Is it worth the time, and is it as good as this sim? Just asking, because I may giver her a go.
