View Full Version : How Are You Getting Ready for Grey Wolves 2.0?

Just a few weeks ago I mentioned to my wife, "It just doesn't feel like 'Christmas' this year!" Perhaps I am aging into a "Bah! Humbug!" Scrooge? My kids are now older [16, 19, 22] and not as giddy and excited as they used to be when younger. Still, I do enjoy the holidays and having family round a table full of food and drink, so I count my blessings with humble gratitude.

Then, out of nowhere, it seemed, came the announcement that Grey Wolves 2.0 is to be released in early December. I think the date is Dec. 6th? Anyhow, it has given me something else to look forward to and become excited about. My gaming rig, although getting on a bit, is still up to scratch: Athlon 3200+ CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT w/128 MB video RAM, 20" widescreen LCD, Audigy2 sound card and Logitech 6-speaker surround sound [and boy, does it boom!] setup. I have 2 x 250 GB SATA hard drives in RAID-0 setup, which I am going to reformat and rebuild from the ground up. I am not happy with my Norton suite setup, having problems getting it to update correctly and I just want to blow it all away and rebuild it afresh. I am going away tomorrow for a few days, but when I get back, the project begins: reformat the array, install OS anew and update all drivers, etc. and a clean installation of SH3 as I await the release of GW 2.0. I have already ensured myself a place on the early download list by making a donation to the SubSim site. By the way, although this is my main hangout, I admire that Neal Stevens supports that site out of his own pocket, asided from the odd contribution by the community. He's a fellow sub afficionado and I salute him for his work of love. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Just throwing this out to the floor: What are you folks doing as you await the release of the final update of Grey Wolves?

@ joeap,
Is there any improvment in the crew graphics, I mean too the standard of SHIV?
The guys as always do a great job with clothes and faces etc but has GWX.2 managed to improve the crew in Zentrale in any way?

I'm with Hsj41, I've already uninstalled GWX 1.03 and waiting for Dec 16th. I have my always trusty WAC to keep me going until then. Then I will have WAC 3.0 to get ready for. Ain't the Holidays just dandy ?!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

You asked, so I shall answer it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

There has been no improvement to the Crew 3D Models and I'll tell you why.

The rendering engine of SH3 is very different to SH4 and while we could redo the models in GWX, the performance hit (aka FPS) would be too constrictive to make the game playable at the recommended specs, which GWX has always maintained so that a larger player base can be kept.

For example, the crew models in SH3 are around 800 polys (for each crew member that is rendered) but SH4's are around double, this is only possible due to the way SH4 renders them.

Also, tests were conducted in the attempt to add more crew (in the control room, for example) but again, this brought the game to it's knees in an already very high poly count environment (aka U-Boat interiors).

This doesn't mean we haven't 'played' with the interiors but, I guess you'll have to wait and see. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

On another note, the latest GWX manual will be released early (maybe this week) so you can wet your appetite, if you want. BTW, the manual has exceeded 600 pages.

I have prepared for GWX 2.0 by putting a budget request to my economy chief (my wife) for making a donation. It has been accepted, so I will make a donation and get it early!
