Ok, I'm a bit slow - but just in case anyone else didn't realise this.. little tip for getting range in manual TDC.
After selecting the 'range' option from the TDC notepad in the periscope or UZO views.. when you click the mast icon to get the moveable bar.. the lower bar is supposed to be on the waterline, the moveable bar you're supposed to place at the top mast height to get the range.
Well, in rough sea's this is tough.. but I was waiting as the scope rocked around, waiting for the lower bar to go through the waterline, or close to it, so I could judge how close the top line was to the mast top, and adjust accordingly. I do this using the mouse to control the periscope.
I only just realised in my last patrol, we can use the mouse AND the keyboard arrow keys. So while the periscope is pitching and rocking up and down, we can compensate by using the up/down arrow keys. If we use the Control key with the arrow keys we can get some quite fine adjustment and, it stll ain't easy, but it helps keep the view steady.
Sheesh!!
