Use OpenGL. It will allow you to run the game in Perfect mode. Otherwise that video setting will be 'greyed out' in video setup.

It's funny, but contrary to recommendation DirectX gives me the smoothest results. Strange but true...

I don't know about fps difference, but it isn't possible to run game in full video settings on DirectX. Take a look:

I have tried running in DirectX. But the sim seems to run smoother and seems the IQ looks alot better when running in OpenGL.

il-2/fb/aep/pf was designed to run in OGL, use it. be sure

OpenGL is the native API that the game was written for...when running in Direct3D its running an OpenGL emulation.

I find this to be true as well. I am positive that a setting on my PC, or a program that is running while I use FB, is the culprit. So far I have not found out the cause, but since I don't really care about "Perfect" mode (which in my opinion has a great reputation because of it's name) and I run at 1024x768 16 bit anyway, the performance is quite good anyway. I can't imagine how smooth it would be if I could figure out why OGL is slower than DX

One odd thing I've found is that the game will load faster on my machine if I start it up, play for a minute or so, and shut down, then immediately re-start

if I don't do that, loading a custom skin in QMB will take about 20 seconds of hang-up time.

If I do the above procedure, it loads the skin instantly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Don't know why, but it works

Thats as maybe, but when the experts tell you one thing and experience tells you the opposite, experience wins

Make the move to Perfect mode when you can. The larger 30km horizon distance makes an amazing difference....otherwise you are stuck with 20km horizon distance. I have modded my StrikeFighters sim to get 200km horizon distance. At 20km altitude, you need it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have 6800GT. Previously I had FX5950 Ultra. During use of these two cards I've run most Nvidia drivers from fifty whatever up to 71.89, my current driver.

Games in the IL-2 series have always seemed to run better in OpenGL on my system.

Best regards,
