One of the missions I am flying require you to land on a carrier and then take off and land on another carrier.

My problem is I cant seem to land on the first carrier without damaging the landing gear or with enough carrier length left to take off again. I can do either or but not both.

I need help.

Thanks

Landing takes practise...

Once you have landed, taxi to the end of the ship, then press brakes... Make sure the tailwheel is not locked...
Power up and hard rudder to one side while keeping the brakes pressed...

Once you have turned 180degrees, lock the tailwheel, and you can takeoff again...

Question: You are using the tailhook to grab the wires on the ship right?

If this is not enough help, or you are not sure what you are doing wrong, show us a track of your attempts and we will comment...

We have some tutorials including video in the M4T Kbase (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base)

Carrier landing 1 (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=275)
Carrier landing 2 (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=276)

Yes using the tail hook but didnt realize doing 180 would also enable me to take off again. Thought I was good being able to land; but being able to land and take off again adds another dimension.

According to the mission, I have to stop at the second wire fully intact in order to take off again but my gear keeps collapsing and Im stuck on the carrier and cant take off.

I also thought the VV was for deflection shooting but realize its were your plane is heading too.

Thanks

Got some practicing to do.

i usally put my Tail hook down and belly land on the deck (don't bounce as high that way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif).

I have to hook into the first set of wires with gear down (cant belly land) and take off again. You cant put your gear down to take off while on your belly. Its mission 15. Auto pilot fails miserably and lands on the wrong carrier first.

Are you sure about having to land on only the first set of wires?

There is usually another set of wires, a little bit further up the carrier...

I can't emagine the mission failing becouse you didn't land on the first set...

i love coming in at 600kmh with my tailhook down and skimming the deck of a carrier and flaring up right over the wires.

I gotta try that.

Well DooDah!!!!! No I just gotta land and take off again. Mission suggests grabing the first set of wires.

Advanced flyers will nail the first set of wires, most of the time...
It is indeed adviced, since it gives you most runway if you feel you will miss all the wires and have to abort the landing...

However, trying to grab the first wires geatly enhances the chances for things going wrong, while you are learning the basics...
Memmories, of comming in to shallow, or having to drop like a stone, come to mind...

I think that advanced flyers have learned both how to land, as having learned when not to land and go around for another try... there is no shame in that...

And now that you know how to do a 180 for takeoff, I am sure you will succeed this mission on you very next try...
Or the one after that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Take your time, any wire will do... (except maybe the last three wires)

That is a very interesting campaign and a good mission. I think I remember it being at night as well.

It is relatively easy to do the landing that the mission wants. Essex carrier with a Hellcat. Doesn't get much easier than that. You'll get it after a while. Sounds like you are coming in too steep and breaking the gear to me.

When I did it I turned around taxied back to the fantail and then took off from there. Just to be sure. It is not that hard though I think the carrier is only going at 10 knots.

Keep at it.
