View Full Version : New info on AC:B

Next month's issue of PC Gameplay (Dutch/Belgian magazine) features a 5 page article on AC:B. I only skimmed the article, but some points that caught my attention:

- Rome is to AC:B what Monteriggioni was to AC2. You'll be able to "upgrade" various parts of Rome and help usher in the Renaissance (Rome wasn't quite up to the standards of Florence or Venice at the early 1500s).
- Revamped combatsystem. No more staringcontests and an improved combosystem.
- Assassin's guild. As grandmaster of the assassin's guild you'll be able to recruit new assassin's and watch them rise through the ranks as they complete missions you give them throughout Europe. This will give you an insight into what's happening in other cities as well.
- Rodrigo Borgia has become merely a puppet to his son Cesare, your new nemesis.
- Horses will become more useful. Ability to mount inside Rome. Enemies can be mounted as well.
- Multiplayer will feature 7 character types: Barber, noble, courtesan, priest, prowler, doctor and executioner. Each character has its own personal weapon, but can be specialised whichever way you want. Some examples given are a hidden gun upgrade, smoke bombs, an ability that lets you take on another player's looks and an ability that makes the crowd around you copies of your own character (great way to fix the blending problem against human opponents).
- Maps will feature landmarks from Florence, Rome, Venice and the likes, but won't be exact copies of the cities.
- A multiplayer gametype mentioned was 'wanted man'. Each player is designated another player which he needs to try and assassinate. Makes for great cat and mouse games.
- Maps will feature special freerun objects that will hinder persuers once you pass them (think trapdoors that close behind you, ledges that crumble when you move over them).

This pretty much sums up the main points I think.

No more staringcontests
lololololol XD

anyway thats awesome http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif(the whole thing not just the staringcontest thing xD)
and looks like its true.. the assassin look-alike in the AC:B characters' picture is borgia's son.

Actually, there's a pic of Cesare Borgia in the magazine and it isn't the assassin look alike. He does look awesome though, much better than the tubby Rodrigo.

Hey dude, thanks for the info, but any chance for scans of the pictures the magazine includes?

I don't think I'm allowed to link to magazine scans on these forums. All the pics were released by Ubi on the press event though, so they're bound to end up online soon.

Could this barber character possily be slightly Sweeney Todd-esque? I do hope so! Razors would be such cool weapons in AC!

Ah ok. It's just that the characters' clothing looks a bit, not-Renaissance-ish. Especially the girl's.

They did mention the barber's weapon of choice will be a razor. Dunno how far the similarities with Sweeney Todd go though.

"The adventure will begin right where we left off in Assassin's Creed 2, continuing our struggle against the Templars. As we know it developed in Rome but also retain some existing scenarios where Desmond will accompany."

Got this from a google translation..

EDIT: Other little bits (I know the horse was mentioned but this goes a bit further):

"Another innovative element is the use of the horse, some areas of the game only if we are riding you can visit. No more having to dismount to walk the streets and even going to optimize combat operations with new strokes were more effective on the backs of our animal.

The city of Rome will be huge and will be divided into five districts (the Tiber, the Vatican, the center of the city, countryside and the old town) with its own personality."

i know you translated this and all but i had to make the joke

i think he's doing it wrong

also
Rodrigo Borgia didn't poison himself in the game, neither did he do it in real life where he lived for another 4 years or 3
the book adaptation of the game is filled with crappolla
for instances
Cristina was from the Vespucci family
not Calfucci
and there is a bunch of other things the Oliver Bowden Screwed up like the suicide of Rodrigo

"The adventure will begin right where we left off in Assassin's Creed 2, continuing our struggle against the Templars. As we know it developed in Rome but also retain some existing scenarios where Desmond will accompany." Knew it.

AC Brotherhood is the massive chunk of AC2 that wouldn't fit on the disc. I can see Desmond's story being taken as far as this "cabin" they speak of, and AC3 picking up from there. Looks like this is what he digs up after searching through his memories.

All this new inflo pleases me. *rubs hands together eagerly* Mmmm, yes...

If theres a chance you may give away part of the story either don't post it or put some spoilers up and type in white text!

The post I was refering included a specific bit of information about Caterina & Cesares storyline that I didn't know, theres a fair chance of it being a part of AC:B... the AC franchise has a lot of historical reference so giving away said facts definately falls under the title 'spoilers'.

I've intentionally not read up on the historical side of the game so I can enjoy the story as its played out instead of knowing a fair percentage of whats coming... I'm just asking people to be considerate is all.

Now given that we can recuit, it'd sweet if we could induct Leonardo all the way in. I mean he might as well be one anyway, given that he was 'Q' to our Bond all the way through AC2

Okay I can see where you're coming from. On the other had for me, I've always been a fan of the old masters and reading up on the history of time is interesting, so it makes the game even more fun and the history more relevent to my enjoyment when I can actually PLAY some of the events I read about.

Yeah I spelled his name wrong, oh well.

Anyway, Patrice usually gets up on stage and explains the history of the scene he's about to show.

Why?

Because the majority of us find it cooler to know what really happened during that time. That way when you see it in the game you see how they changed it via the assassin stopping or helping with things.

I don't know, maybe im alone on that but I think it's cool, like seeing Caterina and her kids or the whole pazzi conspiracy for instance.

Sorry for spoiling it for you, I just get excited to the max!!

Yea i know what your saying guys and thanks for the advice. i just dont feel it necissary to be honest as you say you (Robson) dont want to know about it until you play the game so i wont risk telling you what happened as what i tell you will be true to the real events not what Ubisoft have planned for the game. Also there is no point me telling you what happens in a real history sence when the game may not follow the same patteren. AC2 was very accurate (for a game) and although i appriciate what your saying its ok mate i will wait until November http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It may have been said already, but am I the only who thinks 15 hours of gameplay is a little short for an AC game especially since AC games are non-linear. Does this mean that the single player portion of the game won't be open world?

AC:B is not open world. You are only going to be in Rome. It's sort of like Bloodlines, but with mp and on consoles. Remember this isn't AC3, it's just a filler basically....with multiplayer

"Open-world", when used referring to a video game, simply means you can roam around a map vs. moving through levels.

And yes, AC:B WILL be open world.

I read in one of those scans that joojoo posted that Rome is going to be 4x the size of Venice in AC2! O_O

That's massive.

The game is certainly open world, and Rome is going to be bigger then all of AC2's cities COMBINED. There will be plenty do not least of which is the ability to repair, and revitalise the whole of Rome.

The single player game will have plenty of meat on it, and will certainly be the main selling point of the game. Its not filler.

And that's kinda scary given that we'll be upgrading it.

Yea if done right this could add many, many hours of gameplay to the game. It could be absolutely epic. This is probably the feature I am most excited about.

Personally, I expect only a minor upgrade from the Monteriggioni system. Only instead of single buildings, you restore entire districts at a time.

... he tends to be pessimistic about these things to save himself from dissapointment lol

I on the other hand expect a major upgrade from the Villa system, maybe Ubi will meet us half way and give us a reasonable compromise http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Honestly I'd be fine with that, I enjoyed the Monteriggioni system, heck about 2/3rds of the way through I had fully upgraded the villa and was a little depressed, though I did still enjoy filling the gallery. I kinda wished Ubi would have let us start doing actual research and architectural upgrades as well. Hehe I'd have built so much stuff. One thing that I really wish they'd done is let us use the Da Vinci flier in Monteriggioni, for practice if nothing else, that'd be a blast, swooping through the city streets

That's a pretty good idea actually. Much better than the one they settled for in Forli. "Oh hi! Here's a glider you can use for no reason. Let us know when you want to fly the thing, so we can light huge fires in Forli and triple the rooftop guards!"

I'd get bored of that fairly quickly, the Monteriggioni map is fairly small so you'd just be flying around in circles.

If they had one... or a few available in every city that would have made fast travelling in cities good fun. There certainly should have been more side missions that involved the glider.

Also, this is far fetched but you could have been towed along behind a horse and cart on one... although the mission where you're helping Leo through the mountains they do fire flaming arrows into the ground so you could have used them aswell.

That was a bit early in the storyline to be flying it though...

Gon'a be fun to see what the 'parachute' in AC:B is like!

Robson your first idea is the best. Yes and then you could have flewn between Venice and the mainland rather than getting the Traggetto.

Parachute? Don't remember reading that! haha!

Man this is going to be great!!

I can't wait, especially for the multiplayer

LOL!
true but at least they let us play with it as often as we want, that's actually how I got the flyswatter achevement. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Heh, I try to fly all around Forli now, and see if I can use it to get to the tops of towers. I think when I get my Xbox back from MS (darn RROD) I'll see if I can pull off a really sick DFA with it

Marius - Do you get full use of the flier (i really resent callin it that so iam going to say Plane lol) once you have the DLC's as in you can use it in free roam as well as for a Memory in the DLC.

It's pretty much the info that we already got, but here's a link with a lot of info about Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (translated by google... )

Exclusive details of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood leaked (http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fps3life.nl%2Fnieuws%2F5820-exclusieve-informatie-en-screens-van-assassin-s-creed-brotherhood-gelekt%2F&sl=nl&tl=en)

So the 15 hours is strictly mission based? Meaning all the missions that progress the storyline add up to 15 hours of gameplay? If that's the case I'd be fine with that considering I could always prolong the experience by doing other things in-game. And if Rome is as big as you're all saying AC:B should be quite satisfying.

well i got the playstation magazine that had AC:B on the cover. The article is about 4 pages long and it has some cool details about desmond. It said desmond is still featured in the game but you wont see him or play as him until later on in the story. So the animus 2.0 is still in use for AC:B.

Also in the link above the translation got messed up its supposed to be Ezio is in a corrupt Rome not Ezio is corrupt in Rome.

No you can just use it in the Forli flyer memory, but you can enter the memory as often as you want

I don't like open Q&As. Too many people asking obvious questions and the really interesting ones go by unnoticed. Still better than nothing I guess. And yay for official release date! (Holidays 2010)

i guess ubi dont want to spoil to much so they only take the obvious questions so they dont need to answer them like when they asked patrice if rome was in ac2 he said "eww i dont know" its a better way of saying no http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

JerryChan, i dont know if posting scans is legal or not but i sure enjoyed reading the article. the MP sounds really good. i had a talk while back with a friend about what MP should look like and not only that the MP in AC:B looks like what we talked about but it even adds more original and cool ideas. sounds sweet.

and i really really (REALLY) hope that the combat system will not "just" reward aggression but will also punish lack of assertion so ppl cant hold "defence" and be fine forever with their 100000 health bars that regenerates and 500 medicines.
the article said that the combat system in ACB will include a combo type system that chains attacks from one to another. if i know AC IP what they are doing here is just adding ANOTHER overpowered way of killing enemies. AC2 added disarms and combo kills. that was nice and all but broke the combat. now they are adding chain combos? will that break the combat even more? that's what im thinking but i'll try and stay optimistic as much as i can in spite of my experience with AC1 AND AC2...
