View Full Version : Best at altitude

I have had a problem with high altitude pests
particularly the thunderbolt at 10000m+

Whenever I go after one they just run away. There must be some axis fighter this side of the Me 163 capable of catching these pests, even the jets have trouble.

How about a "best at alitude" for

1000m
3000m
5000m
7500m
10000m

cheers

best bet is probably the Ta 152H and C.

Otherwise the Jug (and Mustang) both come into their own up high, more or less as it was and should be.

Just be thankful there is no P51H in game!

The Ta152 would be a decent matchup. The K4 isn't too bad either, but typically the Jug & pony show dictate the rules that high.

Smart guys. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

We call it "extending". Trying to get some separation so we can come back into the fight from a more favorable position.

I'm stil surprised when I see people crying that a faster plane then his is runing away from him. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

What would you want him to do? get in a nice turning match with your lighter plane, so you can chew him up?

Agree with Thunderbolt56, Ta-152H is your best bet. The C is fast but can't climb or maneuver up there.

Use the Ta-152H. And to boost power, you might want to try adding some VTEC and TYPE-R stickaz. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Jug is King of the Mountain. TA is only plane with a shot at the title, but only with an altitude advantage to start the fight. Otherwise Jug wins hands down.

Down low below 20,000 ft I would say the Spit is king

The Focke Wulfs are the ones to consider if you want to go for Jugs at lower altitudes. Contemporary Fockes A series can catch the Jug at altitudes up to 6000 meters.

You'd need a D-9 for altitudes up to 7500 m.

The D-9 is also pretty decent even higher, but a Ta-152 if available is a better choice.

The Bf 109K-4 actually outpaces a P-47 at any altitude and is the only true 109 option.

Not mentioned so far are the Japanese Ki-84 and J2M3, J2M5 - all are competitive up to 6000m and the J2M5 even up to any altitude.

K4 is no match for the jug above 7500m.

Don't dismiss the Spitfire HF IXe at high altitude.

It may not have the speed of the P-51,P-47 or Ta-152, but its one of the few fighters that doesn't feel as if its about to fall out of the sky when you get into a turn above 25,000 feet

As a general statement, this is not true.

Hows the K4 at 10000m?

Can the 262 or 162 match the jug at 10000?

I need to know if it's my methods letting me down, or does the jug maintain that much of a speed advantage at altitude.
I read somewhere that the early jets didn't do altitude well.

The K-4 is about on par in every parameter. It can't dive with the Jug, though.

The 262 is about 100kph faster but sucks if you move the stick in any way.

Err... turning off MW-50 above 7500 meter actually doesn't effect the performance much - simply because all MW-50 does is enabling the engine to run at higher boost... and by 7500m, the supercharger can't provide the boost pressure anyway.
Now with GM-1, that would be something else, as GM-1 starts to work at these altitude, but luckily for Allied high altitude jocks, we don't have any GM-1 109s except the old Emil. If we would have a Bf 109G-1, now that's entirely a different question, that beast actually beats the K-4 at altitude w. GM-1. And yup, it's from 1942.

Not that good old K wouldn't still kick a$$ anyway. IIRC the 109K is indeed faster than the P-47D at any altitude. At 10 000 m it should do 680 km/h, which sounds about as much or little more than the top speed of a later model P-47Ds.

Jug kicks K4 at alt so bad it's not even a competition http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Maybe you go into the QMB, set yourself in the 47D_late against 4 flights with 1 AI ace each at 10000 meters alt and show me how you did?

If it really kicked, I'd expect you to kill them all within 6 mins. Go ahead.

p.s.: Beware, they might fly straight and you will never catch them.

Cheers a K4 152 or 162 may be in order to deal with the pests http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I took the Ta-183 last night to 15000m: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

You can Z&B that jug from 10000m like there's no tomorow. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
